No, certainly not heavily anyway or the words considered the "worst." It's nice and principled and whatever to say "words are just words," but why would I want to deliberately upset people I care about anyone when the alternative has no cost to me? #goldenrule

I grew up with swearing parents, so they'd be pretty hypocritical to say anything about us swearing around them now, and they know it.

I do. My parents have known Ive swore since I was young, but knew I had enough to not do it in front of them. But now Im an adult, and I do swear in front of them. Though, I dont overdue it.

I've grown up in a lovely town in England called Grimsby. Because of this swearing is essentially part of my dialect, and I often find myself using the word fuck to tie a sentence together. Also since my Mum isn't around anymore I really don't hold myself back from swearing in front of anybody regularly, I know my Dad doesn't care about me swearing in front of him.

It's kind of a drawback in 'formal' situations for me though.

You could turn that round and say "I wouldn't want anybody to have to stop talking how they want just to appease me".

Ah yes, Grimsby.

At least the town has the right name :D

OT: A little.

I could if I wanted to but it just doesn't fell right having been brought up not to swear in front of them.

I really try not to but I occasionally do. Sometimes stuff just slip out from my years living at university.

I do use minor curses like Crap all the time.

I try and be mindful of others. I consider it to be part of the whole "adult" thing. I do swear, sometimes, usually just reflexively.

There's no such thing as a bad word. We are all adults, and these are the words that we use to express anger, rage, and frustration.
Though some people also swear like it's a form of punctuation. Lewis Black, for example.

I try not to, but sometimes it just comes across. This is what living away from home has done to me I suppose... xD

Yeah I swear in front of my mother except the word Twat she hates it. I still get told off for telling my brother to fuck off though.

Uhh my parents taught me how to swear; for years now - anything goes. Sorry, is this thread aimed at the youngsters in the community?

I use the same kind of language around my parents I use with anyone else, but I don't cuss, it's just not the way I talk.
Unless I'm very upset.

I can have discussions about such things with my mom, though, the concept of Hell, or the use of the word '******', but that's not cussing. There are no 'bad words', it's all about the context.

My mom uses the expression 'Kauhistuksen kanahäkki' ('A chicken coop of terror') when something is wrong, so that expression startles me, because when she uses that something is wrong.
Pretty much this.

I mean, I don't do it in front of my grandmother a whole lot, but sometimes the words come out when the situation warrants it. Likewise, my grammy is a short, sweet 4' 10" of lovable good person - but the minute she swears is either when something's gone horribly wrong or someone being completely and utterly retarded. To my knowledge, she's only sworn twice - and one of those times was at my mother, which pretty much put my ma in her place.

Also, because this is relevant:

Kind of like in a lower voice (not whisper) and behind their back. I mainly say it when they annoyed me due to frustration (e.g. calling down to fix their pc when they hearding double sounds and it simply them not understanding about having more than one windos open, those idiots).

My parents only used to hate it because of my younger sister but now that she's in grade 8 my parents don't really give a crap.

I cuss around my mom whenever I would normally cuss in a situation period, I don't exactly swear like a sailor or whatever, but it's not like it's going to make her ashamed of me or anything, I just say what I say.

As far as it affecting what she thinks of me, it can't be worse than any of the other things I've done, if anything, the fact that I swear when I swear and say what I say around her shows that I treat her as if I expect her to see me as an adult, whish is a way of showing respect to her parenting of me, not hiding who I am or how I am, because I am me, and being her son, I would say that that in itself pays homage to her as a person as well.

I live kinda far away from her right now though... So, maybe one day I'll get to swear about stuff in her earshot again... Never know what the future holds.

Nope. Mainly because I don't swear (unless I have a good reason). Although both my mom and brother swear- my mom occasionally, my brother frequently.
