Let's see. I'm in college, that answer it?
Just kidding. Though honestly I was still drunk at 1pm last Sunday, so I think I fall under the category of a frequent drinker. Honestly, alcohol is neither bad nor good (though most things do kind of taste like the underside of a bathroom), it's something to enjoy with friends in a positive way. It turns into a shared experience that I feel everyone should try at least once in excess (not horrible death excess, just say, get tipsy).

Also, I'm not sure how you could compare soda with alcohol in this case. They're not that similar.

I used to be a whiskey guy. But now Gin is my drink of choice. Gin with a tiny bit of dry vermouth, stirred in ice, is fantastic. Tonic, though, is a gin's best friend.

Alas, I try to limit my alcohol, both in amount and frequency of use. My father, as well as many other members of my family past and present, are alcoholics. As such, I drink little and not often.

My real vice is coffee.

Yes, I do, but with a few stipulations:

1. hard liquor only (vodka etc)
2. no light beer (if you can see your hand on the other side of the glass, it's not a beer!)
3. Mixed drinks chilled only.
4. Martinis shaken only.
5. Vodka preferably.

there are more, but wine is a bit complicated and well, I'm not that big a fan of whiskey or other browns that much. (though a nice glass of crown every so often can be quite nice . . .)

and remember kids! Life is too short for cheap liquor! you can take THAT to the bank!

[sub]thank you and good night[/sub]

I am, or was, unhealthily obsessed with it (that is: The drug itself and not the consumption of it). Though I don't really drink.

At first I was terrified of it. After I tried it I'm not afraid any more, but I'm still quite annoyed at those who promote it as the all-wonderful drug to have fun. They're about as annoying as I would expect those who obsessively promote abstinence are to those on the opposite side of the spectrum.

I can understand why people would enjoy a drink. But personally I find it to interfere with my normal already trippy state of mind, so I don't find it much rewarding. For the relaxing part, I have tea (isn't as potent a relaxant, but it has a few other nice effects that I like). And as for the social lubricant part of it, I tend to stay away from that kind of medication as much as possible, because I prefer to deal with things with own ability.

By default I won't drink at any occasion, but I don't hold this as an absolute rule. I would like to at least try to drink on a social occasion, just so my opinion on it is based on experience and not on delusional judgement. I hate to say that I actually quite like the taste of it though.

I'm quite interested in touching a few other kinds of drugs though, within reason.

I'm 16 and I like drinking. I do it rarely and I've only gotten really drunk once but it's fun.
If it tastes good and feels good, then why not?
not smoking though....never smoking.

Being a student always helps. But £1 drinks are lethal. When I got to uni I pretty much became a bottle of Vodka.

Nope.

I've had a sip of scotch and it was shite.

Not my thing. To each their own.
I drink regularily and absolutely can't stand the taste of scotch. Just sayin'.
Scotch is the shit, dudes.. It's like jazz, you gotta force yourself to like it, and when you do... Whooaaaahh
Hell no, the smell alone make me sick. I used to drink it without a care, until a certain, all-too-close encounter with Mister Daniels destroyed that for me.

Don't mind jazz though.

... you silly, silly but yet practical niggah :{D

Oh, no, no no. I was just saying that's the only time I've had any alcohol. Might try scotch with coke. I hear that's nice.

Oh, I had a glass of wine once. Was 'meh'.
I know, I justed wanted to add that it's very possible to like alcohol and despise scotch : )

No, and as for my future I intend that to be rarely.
I probably haven't had enough non-medicinal alcohol in my entire life to get drunk.

I drink every day, mostly with my dinner but I often go to the pub after uni too. Still, it is only a couple of pints a day, I don't get drunk.

I'm a reasonable connaisseur when it comes to Belgian beers, and I do enjoy a good drink regardless of what day of the week it is. Having said that I never get too drunk to get home safely or lose control over myself. I do admit this has at times been a road of trial and some error, but I prefer knowing my limits rather than stearing clear or them just to be safe.

I'm a great fan of bizarre and strong flavours, as well as being very driven to know anything there is to know when I like something. It's just something I enjoy and that causes neither me nor anyone around me trouble, so I see no problem in it.

Now I'm off to get a glass of 10 year old Talisker whiskey, one of the most distinctive flavours you'll ever encounter. Love it!

I drink but only socially, never at home or alone. Once a week I'll head into this awesome metal bar in town and hang out with the friends I can't normally see because they live so far away. Great place too, good music, cheap drinks and amazingly nice people. I've been going there for 2 or 3 years now and there's never been a single fight in that place, not something I can say about almost all the other places I've been.

Now while I drink, I understand that some people don't go near alcohol for various reasons. Now for this I don't repect them, I don't disrespect them. I say "Ah, I see" and continue on with my life although I will acknowledge that every experience should be tried once, including being drunk. What's annoying me though, is that while I've been reading through some of posts in this thread, I couldn't help but notice that SOME[/b(not all)of the posters who don't drink seem to take a fabricated, superior moral high-ground against those that do. Does anyone agree with me or do you think I'm just being a tad paranoid?

proves the point that those who drink are cowards because they'd never dare to do that stuff when not drunk.
Uhm... No. Evidently you're not a drinker, and you don't really 'get' it. Whilst I'm not saying that not understanding the appeal of drinking is wrong, you don't understand what you're talking about and are saying things which are completely wrong.

OT:
I enjoy drinking both for fun on a night out, and for enjoying the drink itself. Enjoying a fine scotch is one of the best (but horribly expensive for a student) pleasures in life.

Belgian beers you say? You should try Brother Thelonious [http://www.northcoastbrewing.com/beer-brotherThelonious.htm] it's quite strong, but works really really well, especially in this rotten darkness.

I enjoy my alcohol but I don't like getting drunk. So I buy expensive alcohol that tastes good (microbrew beers, top shelf spirits, really nice wines) and I have at least one alcoholic drink nearly every day, but it's incredibly rare that I have any more than, say, two at the most.
Yes, I really do drink for the taste.
If you haven´t, try famous grouse white a Whisky you drink ice cold! Its like silk when it pours down your throat. And taste good.
