As a male, I always play female characters in games. I can't realy use the excuse that I like to watch the female bottom more than the male one, as I usualy play some kind of heavy plate class where it doesn't realy matter (dependin on the game, lineage 2, heh...). I just like a strong female character better, and find them more interesting than a boring strong male character. If I can't play as a girl in a game, then I often wont pick it up.

As often as I can!

I just went through all 3 Streets of Rage games, I couldn't resist playing as Blaze each time. She's just the best.

It's also just nice to have a change of pace. This is why I love Metroid. She's not a Space Marine, and She's not a guy.

Female characters are more pleasing on the eye, so I tend to play them as my first choice in nearly all games despite being male.

That being said...I'll often try out the male for stereotypical roles.
Dragon Age - Male Warrior, Female everything else for example.
When Diablo 3 comes out my only male character will likely be the Barbarian.

In the case of Iji and the Touhou games, yes. Granted, there's no actual choice there, but it doesn't bother me either (seems to be a problem for some, though).

My main character in RPG's is always some idealized image of myself.

A possible alternate character is always a female because I'd like to see if the game changes at all if I chose a female (which leads to nice surprises from time to time, Ahem Demon's souls ahem ahem White knight chronicles ahem)

Sometimes I switch the order, but generally it goes like that. Also I like looking at some good ass when I'm running around a map I've seen several times.

If I design my own character, generally no. It just adds one extra difference to overcome when I'm trying to project/immerse myself into the game world.

If the protagonist is fixed as a female, such as Bayonetta, then of course I'll play a female character without minding in the slightest

Oh! if there is the choize to play as a female, i use it, always, i dont want to spend the next 8+ hours looking at a slab of meat

also, if the game is FP, i do it too, i just love to play as one and act all lesbian on the other girls, killing any guy that so much as looks at me funny (this is in the Fallout sense of things... i hope this isnt offensive because i honestly dont know with this comment)

but yeah, ever since i was 12, i have always fought with a female avatar, I just find the game more pleasurable in my mind that way... dont really know why... perhaps i wanted to be a woman!!... meh, who knows...

Absolutely. If there's a choice I always go with a female. It's hard to explain but it makes the story more interesting to me. It's far more fun to act tough and intimidate other people when the main character is a female. If you're a strong manly man it's kinda.. nothing special.

I just pick wichever character looks the best to me. I'm not to caring about the gender.

I chose to replay Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2009 just to play as the girl, 'cause she got the Dark Magician Girl hair, outfit and duel disc.

The guy barely got anything from the anime. xD

Usually not. I like to be represented by male characters (maybe because I am one?) better than female ones. And they usually annoy me in games for some reason. But in Mortal Kombat I may sometimes play as a female because of their fighting style. Even in SW Battlefront 2 I hate being the rebel sniper cuz she annoys the shit out of me.

I'm sexist, what can I say?

Frequently.

I find it easier to play EVIL females than EVIL males, for some reason, too.

But my one-and-only Fallout 3 playthough was a girl, because Black Widow gave me 10% damage on the sausagefest on enemies.

If the character only exists as female and I want to play it, of course.

I only do certain characters as females when you customize your character however. I've noticed I do so more frequently in BioWare games...

In RPGs I always play as guys for the beards. I love me a good beard!

In other games were you choose pre-set characters I can play a female character no problem, but I still tend to choose to play guys.
