I sometimes play a male character... Actually, I usually do. I don't know why, maybe because I'm not usually fond of female protagonists.

No, I typically don't, though there are very few games I've played where you can choose your gender.

If I don't have a choice, then I will play as the opposite sex, otherwise I prefer to use my own gender as a choice.

I usually go for a female character. However, for something like Dragon Age where you have so many different options within the story I will play male characters as well. I've actually started doing them more often than usual since I noticed that I used to never play the other side.

RPG's: no. Always male.
Fighters: yes. I'm much better with speed and agility than strength so I always create a girl.
Everything else: no. Always male.

I like to play as a female character a lot of the time.
Mostly it's cause I like to have a pretty face and voice in front of me while I play. haha But also because a lot of female protagonists piss me off because they're always so unsure of themselves and all "Whoa is me!".
So I make my own one that kicks ass.

Often enough. Variety is good. Also, sometimes better voiceacting, better perks (black widow is so much better), better storyline. Meh, I replay a lot, so I often do both genders eventually.

It depends: for example, when I played WoW I thought male Draenei were ugly, so I rolled a female.

I often play as the female version in games. As a male, I figure that I must act as I should. As a female, I can act differently because it's not me. A strange technicality but I also like looking at something beautiful for the entire game in opposition to someone I feel I'm supposed to identify with.

I've never been too picky towards what gender I play, but I guess I pick male more often than not.
