I voted no, but I can certainly see WHY someone would be. I was for a long while there, especially when I was in the military. Then I realized that about half of my team played WoW.

HELL no. I even have a T-shirt that says it loud and proud. "GAMER" in big GTA-font letters on the front.

I would only play down the fact that I'm a gamer if I was in the presence of intelligent, yet curvacious women and at job/university interviews.
Intelligent AND curvaceous? Are you working on a new breed?

Sorry, just had to come up with a snide remark.

Hope it didn't offend.
I sure am! (in my mind anyway).

No offense caused (like quite a few people on here, I have a sense of humor that allows me to laugh at myself).

I should probably add that I don't shout about my gaming habbits from the rooftops, I like to think I'm the happy medium with a broken keyboard.

It's an interesting question. Gaming has always carried the stigma of being a childish waste of time and something that is usually the domain of unwashed nerds who live in their parents' basement.

The fact of the matter is that gaming is more of a mainstream pastime than ever, and some games can even be considered works of art. The gaming industry makes more money than the movie industry. And yet some people still can't get their head around it, and dismiss it without even trying it for themselves. Maybe it's because they feel threatened or don't understand the bigger picture. Maybe they don't realise how far gaming has evolved or how rewarding and fulfilling it can be.

I don't feel at all embarrassed about being a gamer. I'm proud of it. The only time when I might feel a little bit embarrassed is when I'm trying to get on with people who have no interest and no understanding of what gaming is really like. Everyone understands TV, everyone understands books and movies, most people understand sports. But gaming, despite its popularity and cultural relevance, still lags behind. Things are changing, but we have a long way to go.

I love being a gamer/nerd.

More interesting people and less negativity. Lifes good so why the fuck should i care what title i get, also gamers aren't looked down upon that badly here, just a bit eccentric so watever.

Quite ridicolous if you ask me, if I told her I´d watch TV every day she would have said, yeah me too.
When I'm asked, "Why don't you just watch TV like most people?", I reply, "When I'm watching TV I can't choose what the characters do."

Oh my, no. I talk about games to everyone, regardless of how geeky they are. Regardless, I chose the third answer to keep the other person company.

No, not at all. Sure, I play more than anyone else I know IRL but so what? I also do a lot of other things and partake in as much sport as I can, probably also more than anyone else I know IRL.
I'm just one of those people that trys to through himself, full force, into everything he does.
If I'm gonna be a gamer, then I'll do it properley, I'll get multiple consoles and a huge TV, then hook them up to my bassy speakers.
If I'm gonna play football, I'm gonna play as much as I can, until I'm as good I can be, I'll have all the best stuff, to help me get the tiniest bit more performance out of my body.

Not embarassed about actually being one, but embarassed because people seem to equate gaming wtih "spending 16 hours a day on the internet" which they equate with "being a total deadbeat nerd". I'm far too delicate to put up with such mental abuse ;) If I'm with a person or group who can handle it in a mature way, I'll talk more openly about games.

Slightly off-topic...

Unless that person molds my future.
I'm in a bit of a bind right now.
I sense a lover/relationship issue is the cause of this thread ;)

At work i told them I'm a gamer and now they all come up to me for Computer problems. I have a basic computer knowledge, but not enough to fix serious problems, but my coworkers still ask for my advice even though i tell them to take some problems to a professional and not ask the wrong type of nerd.
Its assumed if your a gamer you know all about electronics at least where i live.

But I never hide it that I like games and spend my free time playing them.

you don't know about computers, yet you play video games? that's kind of weird because you have to install stuff, sometimes download vista fixes, insert the discs in order, that kinda stuff, i learned a lot about computers and all i do on mine is post on forums and play games

At a job interview I was asked "do you know computers?"

I replyed "More hardware than software."

they said "how so?"

I told them I like to play video games. "I can install and uninstall programs, and know how to use windows. "Because of this passion I've also installed hard drives, video cards, sound cards, and built computers from scatch using mail order parts'"

I walked away employed. I thought It was a plus.

(if your talking to me)

i know the Basics just in/uninstalling searching and I'm well versed in spyware because my mother fixes computers for a living and i see so many shat have shut down because of spyware.
no what they are asking my do do is take there computer home with me and install new video cards that i can find them a good deal on, I don't use my computer for gaming much I don't want to put the money into upgrading it for most of the newer games, its just assumed that i know and it gets annoying.
