I can deal with shitty gameplay if it means i can watch a epic story unfold. and it can have doom 1 graphics for all i care.

Although I voted no, given the times if a game doesn't hold a certain visual standard it starts to get iffy. For the most part, games are, and should be, judged based on their content, not on their visual appeal. If you're going to care about nothing but visuals then you won't have any fun and end up thinking Avatar was the best thing ever.
this.

modern day games dont need the most up to date graphics, if the environment and atmosphere is good, the graphics can be at 2003 standards for all i care

however, i will say this, i greatly prefer 3D to 2D, so i do have some standards i would say, but nothing that requires it to be up to date modern graphics, its usually the last thing i look for

p.s. i still appreciate cool graphics/cutscenes like in ffxiii

not really should be an option, because yes you need ecent graphics to be able to tell wtf is happeinin in the game but graphics arent what make the game good! gameplay is what make the game good alongside the storyline

Only in the PSone era. That was when I wondered why 3D was so much better than 2D when it was so ugly.

Nowadays, I don't care. We're reaching the point of the metaphorical £2000 PC- you know, the one where the price you pay goes up inversely to the amount of power you gain.

Any improvement in graphics will not improve my enjoyment of a game anymore, especially if the time spent on graphics could be spent on making a game that's actually good.

The question is not specific. "Do you care about graphics?" Yes, I do. I want a game to have an appealing art style that best suits it. With that in mind, I think that Cel Damage's art style fits it fantastically, despite the game looking old and blockey. Also, as an avid player of roguelikes, I think the basic presentation works fantastically, since the gameplay of the genre is so overbearing.

Graphics are important, but the style of graphics is what really matters.

I thought they didn't, then I played Half-Life 2, and I really found it distracting for some reason. There were moments I thought "Wow, that would be really cool with today's technology".

Yes and no.

Gameplay is more important, but it's too damn hard to go back to the earlier "crappy" graphics now that I have seen the future!

graphics have always been last on the list mainly because when companies focus on making a game pretty it seems they slack like hell on the rest of the game.
story, gameplay and mechanics need to come first before putting the shine on it in my opinion :D
also i think it has a lot to do with how old you are and when you started gaming on where your needs lie from my experience with the people i have met.

having food graphics is a bonus, there are a lot of other aspects that can make a game great.

EDIT: hehe, food graphics!

Graphics do not matter for me. I actual prefer 16/32-bit graphics in some cases.

I can't remember seeing that in Morrowind... Daggerfall and Arena, yes. But not in Morrowind.

It's easier for me to be immersed in the game if the graphics are good. But I think it's more important to have a distinct style in terms of graphics than photorealism.

Imagine trying to do Assassin's Creed 2 in the 8-bit era.

Yes, of course they matter.

I think a lot of people say they don't care about graphics at all to sound like they have some sophisticated opinion on games. Graphics do matter; gaming is a visual medium, after all. The thing is, most games that come out nowadays don't have very bad graphics at all (even the crappier games) so there isn't really anything to complain about. But don't go saying they aren't important, because if a game came along with bloom so high you had to strain your eyes to play it, you'd be complaining.

Nope. I mean i like seeing the shiny visuals but if I'm gonna play the game i want the character on-screen to respond to my button pushing correctly. If that doesn't work then the awesome and shiny next-gen graphics mean nothing.

'Scuuuuuuuuuuuuuze me, but I do not think this is just a Yay/Nay question, since it is so dependent on which game!

For example, FFIX had lots of really well animated cutscenes which drove the story and it would not have been the same game without it.

On the other hand, I still think the first Lemmings game is one of the BEST GAMES EVAR, despite looking like a cats vomit upon a Jackson Pollock painting. (Ok, it's not that bad, but you get the idea.)

True. For example, Final Fantasy VI's graphics don't even compare to what we have now, but it's an incredible game with a good story and even better gameplay.

Especially with todays graphics no. I never noticed the 2D bushes in Haze, till somebody pointed them out to me.

I still don't like games with "an artistic look" like borderlands, LBP etc I don't know why, just not me thing.

They don't really matter to me too much. It's less the "graphics' and horsepower that matters to me and more the actual presentation and art direction. A game does not need mind blowing full HD visuals to look like a good game if the art design fits the game.

So it's a yes and no for me. Graphics encompass a lot of different factors which tie into how good a game can look and if it will be an eyesore or not.
