Quicktime events are only good to finish off, but it does not work well in certain cutscenes where you have to press the right buttons to "not" die.

The QTEs in RE4 during the unskipable story sequences with Krauser, where if you died you had to start it over, were a terrible idea. Thankfully, they split that part up into two segments. The MASH A NOT TO DIE DUE TO THIS GIANT BOULDER CRUSHING YOU bits were stupid though. Button mashsing is stupid.

The QTEs in Madworld during miniboss/boss fights were fine though. They're not necessary to kill the bosses, but when you do pull them off you deal a good amount of damage and you get a nice little gory sequence.

Also, the ones in The Force Unleashed were good.
Really? Are you sure you can say that with a straight face, especially the last QTE with the Star Destroyer?!

the thing is, in resi 4 they just made the cutscenes (which most games have anyway) more interesting - if you were ready for them then they were ahrd to fail anyway, you only failed if you put the controller down and trhe death scenes as a result were quite funny anyway and the game just put you back to the start of said scene

though i admit that some are awful, they're good when done right

In RE5 it took me about 8 tries to beat Wesker and Excella with all the QTE
I wouldn't mind if they didn't change which buttons to press!
I had to message the guy I was playing with; 'I'm sorry, I suck at QTE. I'm usual alright with them, I must be having a bad day today."
Thankfully, he was really sweet and didn't mind.

It depends on the game, on the event, and on the presentation.

Good examples: God of War's br00tal boss finishers, Resident Evil 4's Krauser fight

Bad examples: Stuff like Marvel: Ultimate Alliance where it neither fits nor belongs.
Yeah I always thought it was weird.
I think God of War and RE4 were the only 2 games I've played that did them right.
Everywhere else they feel clunky.

I actually kind of like them. They add some tension to cut scenes because in a quick time game that big nasty boss character might not be content to stand there and talk to you like in a game that does not feature them. They can also be used in combat as a reflex dodge opportunity. Button mash needs to be removed though; turbo buttons = I win and it's not testing my reflexes anymore it's testing the agility of my forearm.

No. If done correctly (God of War, for example), they're a lot of fun. When just plain repetitive, like SW: Thw Force Unleashed, they're boring.

My love for well-done quick-time events outweighs my dislike for poorly-done quick-time events. I like the added tension in my cutscenes, and so far they're the most cinematic gameplay element around (just look at Indigo Prophecy. Mmm...the first 85% of that game was awesome.)

It really depends on how they're used.

They're usually just a minor annoyance more then anything else.

i don't hate them but i also don't like them. i guess i'ts just how developers use them. I think that if they made them easier to see and made them a core part of the game. so they don't just throw them out randomly. I would like to have a better change of getting through them in the first go rather than starting an entire cutsene over again or having to start back half way through a level just to fail again.

Cinematic QTEs are annoying. I don't want to be sitting back, watching a cut scene only to have to fumble for my controller to quickly do whatever they're asking, only to not do it in time or hit a wrong button and die and have to go back to a previous save or something. If they're used in regular gameplay, it is more acceptable.

Weeeell, if you count the final boss as a Quick Time Event.... Yeah, I guess so.
Not really a final boss and I didn't like that battle as Skorge is a retard. RAAM is way better. Although, the "Are you mad we killed your pet worm? HUH!?!" bit was funny. I meant the Chainsaw duels you have in MP or even SP sometimes.
