i was diagnosed with it very recently (about a month ago), for me it manifests itself mostly in me having a really hard time understanding body language and being very formal in real life, which "scare" many people my age (20 something) off, i was actually once in a class for kids with ADHD because my teachers thought that thats what was "wrong" with me, incase you dont know ADHD is pretty much the polar opposite of asperger, it was a very strange fortnight.

Yes, I do have asperger's syndrome. I was diagnosed about 2 years ago. It's not too bad, not as bad as a lot of people I know have it. My brother has it as well, but he has it a lot more than I.
Hey, Furburt. I thought you left.

OT: Nope, but my cousin does.
He's still in user groups and stuff. That post is about six months old.

I do not, and neither do 80% of all people who claim they do. It's just one of those hyped excuses nerds use to hide their poor social skills. Same goes for asexuality. No harm intended to those who actually do have asperger's or are asexual, but all you kids who simply haven't spent any time developing a real life social network and that just haven't had sex yet really need to get a life.

for those of you who voted Sorry What? aspergers syndrome is a form of autism that is passed on from the father upon birth, it affects general social skills aswell as a number of other mental attributes such as memory capabilities and general cleverness (positively and negatively) the symptoms vary between each person. if im mistaken with any of that or if anyone has anything to add please do so

yes yes, sorry! i said dyslexia i meant autism, ive ammended it now
from what you said i could have it for all i know.

I have a father
I was born
my general social skills are like non existant
Does not being able to remeber people names counts as a memory issue. I can normally remember where i know them from. for example i know we went to high school together for 6 years but i dont remember your name.

Asperger's doesn't mean what it used to today, when anyone who acts asocial in their youth gets diagnosed...

Or maybe not, since a lot of people who 'know' they have it don't.

My mother recently did a course on identifying symptoms of Aspergers and how to deal with people who have. She now thinks it's possible that I have it. Quite frankly I just think she's looking for an excuse to say I'm a social reject in a round about manner, my generally stunted social life was caused by other things that I'm not going to discuss here. As for above average intelligence, well I can pick up on Maths, Sciences and Computing fairly easily, but completely failed at English, simply because my creative spark doesn't work when given a subject to write about as well as art and more physical subjects such as sports and stuff.

To be blunt, I do not have Aspergers

Yep, and I have a piece of paper to confirm it :p

I used to feel as if I didn't connect with people well, for a lot of my life, but didn't know why. At uni I had a bit of a rough time, and ended up going to see a specialist who diagnosed me ^^.
Now I know better what things I do and understand better why people react the way they do.

Would be more interesting to see how many people claim to suffer the disorder, without ever having seen a medical professional.
Yeah, would be good to see how many people vote "yes and I have the diagnosis" and "I think I do, but not seen a specialist".

No you're not.

but the internet seems to be riddled with people like I described.
I call shenanigans. There's only 29 members in the Asperger syndrome user group, out of about 600,000 on this messageboard. Hardly "riddled".

If I had it, a doctor would have let me know years ago (I assume)

Otherwise, I don't have it. Although I do have a strange, sad memory...

Then what about the almost 20% of males in the thread that voted positive? And it's not just this site- people need to stop making up syndromes for their own shortcomings. Though if you have a paper from a docotor I'll have to take your word for it.

Aspergers is so often self diagnosed you can't trust anyone who says it.
Unfortunately, very true. Some of the symptoms carry commonalities with other common disorders, too.

(Don't have it)
