Yup, I'm a high-functioning Autistic.

Unlike most others, my problems are related with organisational, rather than social - I'm perfectly fine with having a conversation, but I'm crap at working out the important things in life :p

edit: also, I'm a dude - from what I can tell most people with Asperger Syndrome are guys for some reasons... probably because we're diagnosed more often than anything, mind you (I wander why?)

No I don't have it, it's nice to see that alot of people here have been diagnosed by professionals and not just administering a self-diagnosis.

Be aware that this won't be a proper representative sample gender-wise. The Escapist has quite a few female members, but they're still handily outnumbered by the guys, so you won't be able to get an accurate male/female ratio. I mean, it's not like this is a scientific study or anything, but I still felt it was worth pointing out. Also, no, I don't have it.

i have aspergers syndrome and it just occured to me to wonder what kind of ratio it is between those that are affected and those that aren't, at the same time i figured id guage the M/F ratio sinse i know its more common in guys
You can't do that here. Not that it is against the rules, there is just a bad representative sample. The escapist doesn't represent the population correctly. There is a girl for every girl here if I remember correctly which will not be shown in your results.

Anyway, I do not. My brother does though.
that is a vaild point, thank you for pointing it out

"alot" is pretty objective, certainly not all the 80 people that voted yes in the poll

I have it. Now, there has been many threads about this recently, may I please go back to ignoring it as much as possible? XD

Here's a test I was told about by someone with Aspergers (who told me there's certain aspects of my personality that lead him to suspect that I have it as well). I scored 130 out of 200, where anything 100 and above is considered to be in Asperger territory.

http://www.webmd.com/brain/autism/tc/aspergers-syndrome-symptoms
* Not pick up on social cues and may lack inborn social skills, such as being able to read others' body language, start or maintain a conversation, and take turns talking.
* Dislike any changes in routines.
* Appear to lack empathy.
* Be unable to recognize subtle differences in speech tone, pitch, and accent that alter the meaning of others? speech. Thus, your child may not understand a joke or may take a sarcastic comment literally. Likewise, his or her speech may be flat and difficult to understand because it lacks tone, pitch, and accent.
* Have a formal style of speaking that is advanced for his or her age. For example, the child may use the word "beckon" instead of "call" or the word "return" instead of "come back."
* Avoid eye contact or stare at others.
* Have unusual facial expressions or postures.
* Be preoccupied with only one or few interests, which he or she may be very knowledgeable about. Many children with Asperger's syndrome are overly interested in parts of a whole or in unusual activities, such as designing houses, drawing highly detailed scenes, or studying astronomy. They may show an unusual interest in certain topics such as snakes, names of stars, or dinosaurs.
* Talk a lot, usually about a favorite subject. One-sided conversations are common. Internal thoughts are often verbalized.
* Have delayed motor development. Your child may be late in learning to use a fork or spoon, ride a bike, or catch a ball. He or she may have an awkward walk. Handwriting is often poor.
To some extent this applies to me, except my handwriting is very neat if I take the time to make it so.
* Have heightened sensitivity and become overstimulated by loud noises, lights, or strong tastes or textures. For more information about these symptoms, see sensory integration dysfunction.

EDIT: Whoops. Didn't even realize how old this thread was. Oh well. It was first on the list when I searched "Aspergers." At least that's preferable to making another Aspergers thread, right?

No I do not have it. While yes I recognise the significance of the disorder, I cannot help but think it's perhaps being over diagnosed these days, much like ADHD in the 90's.

My concern comes from the fact that my sister has been told diametrically opposed answers from pschologist and doctors, specifically pschiatrists, whether she has it. Having personally done worked over a year in a certain for people with learning disabilities (albeit severe) which included most of the spectrum of autism disorders, I don't think she has, she's just a lazy and high strung arts student (which I mean in the nicest possible way).

Also when I was just begining primary school many people recommended I be medicated for ADHD with ritalin, while I'll admit I was a little terror, thankfully my Mother (who is a doctor) staunchly told them I was just an ordinary child acting up, that I'd grow out of the behaviour. And that I did, mellowing out over the years to eventually become a calm and bright strapping lad of over 6feet in height (ritalin stunts growth).

Yes, I do have asperger's syndrome. I was diagnosed about 2 years ago. It's not too bad, not as bad as a lot of people I know have it. My brother has it as well, but he has it a lot more than I.
Hey, Furburt. I thought you left.

OT: Nope, but my cousin does.

No, I don't have it. I knew a girl who had it in real life though. It was really obvious. She was usually pretty fun to talk to, though. Was interested in similar things to me.

I don't, but I think my roommate might. Never known anyone who was so diagnosed, though.
