I dunno, everyone always says they don't care, but then we'll get a couple threads a year bitching about how everyone only pays attention to those with high post counts

If I see something that seems vaguely trolly or ignorant I check it and then see if it's less than about 200 posts I reckon they're just new, if it's only double digits I think they may be trolling.

Coming from someone with a low post count, I don't really judge people with high post count but it bugs me to no end:

How the hell do they get so high in post count ? (over 5000)
I'm in the same boat as you (Been here about as long and haven't reached 1000 yet). I hate when people hold my post count against me, especially if they haven't even been here that long. I don't post much by nature. If I have nothing of value to add, I won't say anything.
I feel the same, you know the whole quality over quantity thing, but I have no idea how people have the time to rack up post counts of 5000, never mind 20k or even 30k, so really I think it comes down to how much free time you have. As for the post count itself well yes and no, and by that I mean I'm less likely to take someone serious if they're new and have like ten posts because they might be a troll, but beyond that no because your post count doesn't mean much.

On this site, not really. Seen a lot of idiotic comments from people with high post counts and some pretty interesting and wise ones from people with low post counts.

On other sites I do a little bit more. But I think that's mostly because the people who spend more time on those particularly sites are people who are more in touch and informed about the sites' subjects whilst a new user will come along, say something silly, and then go inactive.

My post count varies between sites a lot though. 1500 here, ~6700 on another forum which I rarely go on anymore and 12500~ and rising on a music site.

Somewhat, if I see someone has under 50 posts and no icon then I tend to view them as not really part of the community yet and am more willing to disregard them. But that's mostly because I've seen more than a few spam bots around.

Pretty much this.

Otherwise if I'm analyzing how familiar they are with this forum, I'll look at their post count. But even then, it's possible they've been browsing the forums long before they joined.

I'm with this guy. You could say its the 101 to forum post analysis.
If you're hinting about who you think I'm talking about, then you're mistaken, friend. I was talking about somebody else.

I never look at post counts, avatars, or even names. I judge the content of the post, and nothing else.

I guess I'm still relatively inexperienced compared to most here, as I didn't think that spambot accounts even existed in this day and age, what with captcha, better security etc. I mean, surely it's really easy to identify and ban them?

I would say I sometimes get more curious as to the opinion to Escapist veterans regarding particular subject matter, but I always read every comment no matter who wrote. I'll particularly enjoy discussing things with like-minded members, be it in music, film and anime.

It seems I spend so much time reading every comment that I never have time to write my own! Hence my low post count.

Considering I joined the site in 2007 (and was lurking without an account for a while before that) and I only have 300ish posts, no not really. I'd be a little hypocritical of myself seeing as I'd like to think that other people give a shit about my opinions and thoughts.

Also, just because you post a lot on a particular forum it doesn't change the validity of your opinions. Bit nonsensical idea really.

If the post count is extremely low (<5) then I might be a bit leery of the person being a troll, especially if they're posting something that might be seen as inflammatory. Other than that I don't really care much about post count.

No, not really. When I was in the habit of using my friend's Facepunch account to view the LMAO threads, I saw an awful lot of circle jerking between the higher post members, and a lot of general pretentiousness. So I avoid it on that principle.
Oh god Facepunch... that place is not the friendliest of places. Even if you're putting in a visible effort to improve your shit, sometimes those people just aren't friendly. Hell, the hobby threads can be downright cruel: I posted in some thread about cars and I showed what I was considering doing to my new truck and in a matter of hours I became the laughing stock of the forum. Not fucking cool. So if you sign up for facepunch kids, keep that site at arm's length, because its community is one of the cruelest on the interwebs. If you're looking for a place where the people are friendly, the threads are entertaining, and the mood is much less inflammatory, stay here on The Escapist.

A bit, people with single or double digit postcounts get the benefit of the doubt when they mess up (unless obvious spambots).

Terrible grammar/spelling will get more judgement usually.

I'm more likely to respect the opinion of someone with a higher post count than a lower one, this is mainly because I have seen them around the forum a lot.

It's been said before, but the fact that Usergroup chat counts really makes it so you might as well not even bother with post count.
There's people with 10,000+ posts who have probably spent less time on the forums than I have.

I don't notice too much, unless their post count is under 50, and then I don't pay them much mind. I'll still read their posts though. I won't lie and pretend that I don't pay attention to post count, but I'm not horribly judgmental of it. I won't ignore you if you're under 300, for example.

I like the Escapist because the community is so massive that you're bound to get a response at some point or other, and at least have your post read by someone. On other forums, they only end up forming cliques and only read popular people's posts, ignoring everyone else. It gets old really fast when you ask a question, and then a popular poster asks the same question after you and gets 50 responses, while you go ignored.
