Being Dutch, I can tell you the tourists are annoying as hell. but Germany itself is alright. no speed limit on the highways, decent drivers, beer... it's a nice place, really.

I surely won´t deny that! Violence leads to more violence that´s always been the same.
And I never said the left wing extremist are harmless!
I am sorry for you, this I can say, honestly. But if some assholes want to beat up some one they always find a reason. No matter where they come from.

E.G. If you happen to be between the front lines. Like Mannheim. There is no "buffer zone" between the Turkish community and the Neo Nazie district, like a few kilometeres of city.
So there is always trouble. And people know that and know where better not to go.
This is sad if a city scape becomes like this. But such situation is true for a lot of German cities.

On a side course:
Did you know about the "happening" from Christoph Schlingensief where he organized a party in a infamous Policestation "Polizeiwache 11" in Kassel. This statin was know for how people where mistreated there. On that event Prisoners are talking aobut what happend there. Here is the link http://www.kunstlump.de/text.html

Although the Happening was very peacefully. For the homeless and underdogs finally had a forum where some one listend to them, finally.
Yeah, I guess people looking for trouble will find ways to cause it. Point taken.
And yes, I actually know about the situation in Mannheim, as my grandparents live there. I don't have time to visit often anymore, but I've seen the aftermaths of a few violent altercations. Very unfortunate indeed, I agree. :(
There are many places in our country I haven't been to, but I'm happy to say this kind of crap has largely managed to stay out of my beautiful Kiel.

Regarding that 'Happening': Hadn't heard about it, but it sounds interesting. However, I'm not going to read that enormous wall of text in the link, sorry. ^^°
no problem, it´s just a link for backup becasue dug for the name of the station.
And it´s nice example how "art", or more pricely "providing a forum" can help people overcome their difficult past.

One day I'll go there and do a multi-city vacation: Bremerhaven, Hamburg, Freiburg, Munich, Vienna. West Germany FTW!

Been there. Liked it, but it was too hot and I don't think I could get used to the language.

They have an interesting sense of humour.

There's no middle ground option.
Have had very limited contact with German people- had a mate at uni who was German, worked harder than anyone else I knew and drank like a fish.
In fact what contact I have had has lead be to believe your a nation of very tightly wound people, even more so than us Brits.

Oh and I "stumbled" across some German porn the other day, it was disturbing.

Sure why not! I always look forward to the German stands in the Euro Market in Manchester. I loved the food they're selling or the interesting stuff they are selling from the shops in that market.

Every German I've ever met has been a lovely person, though this may be due to the fact that I've only met the kind of German who wants to go out and see the world.

Whenever I've been to Germany it's been a lovely experience and the people there are very friendly, with absolutely delicious food. Why wouldn't anyone like Germany?

Just look at how he treats Italy. I mean in his defense Italy is an idiot, but even still...

You mean Germany? The country with zero-tolerance for drunk drivers, the country that teaches the hell out of the war that made them infamous instead of denying it ever occurred?

Love them Krauts.
I can respect that.

OT: I'm part Austrian, so yeah, I like the Germans.

Fun people overall. A bit crazy, but then again, who isn't?
We all have our wacky genocidal periods, right?

...right?
Just Europe. Throw a dart at Europe and you will most likely land on a country that has at least one genocide or atrocity.
Because America has had absolutely no genocides in its history...or are genocides nullified if you give the descendants of the victims their own Casinos and "allow" them to continue their own culture? (sorry, but I absolutely HATE it when people talk shit about the history of other countries, while ignoring their own. and, no offense, Americans seem to do that a lot...)

@Topic: Was born there, live there, don't really have plans on ever leaving. Granted, there's a lot of shit going on in politics (besides people being completely convinced that "Killerspiele", meaning violent video games turn you into a mass murderer, they also think the Internet is the source of all evil. because there was no evil before the 90's...) but still...

But I'm also not the type of guy to say that one country is better than the other. For example, I like the landscape of Australia (from what I've seen, haven't been there (yet)) but they're even more extreme with their gaming censorship and I would probably not like the climate. USA...is actually not that different from Germany, from what I've heard, but there are also things I wouldn't like there. Every country has its pro's and con's (well, okay, North Korea and China are places I totally wouldn't want to live)

[HEADING=3]Fuck no.[/HEADING]

This is the country that single-handedly started the bloodiest war in the history of mankind and used the opportunity to commit atrocities that were so unimaginable that people had to see them with their own eyes to believe it.

And now they're one of the richest countries on the planet.

But hey! This was a long time ago and it was the Nazis who were dicks not Germans, right?

Wrong.

Hitler was a democratically elected leader and had massive public support. Also it wasn't that long ago, NSDAP members are still alive and make up a large portion of Germans. And I don't fucking buy this bullshit that they all abandoned their ideology the second Hitler was dead and now are very sorry and ashamed. I bet my ass that a large portion of them passed their beliefs onto the next generations, of course noone will admitt it.

Seriously, each time I see a retired German couple old enough to wave Swastika flags at parades driving their shiny new Audi limousine down the streets of my city which they helped raise to the ground I want to throw a fucking brick trough their windshield

Also Berlin is a sad city of sorry-ass people who have no idea how to have fun. And don't even get me started on German concert audience.
Wow, don't get yourself in a tizzy.

It kinda seems you are someone who got the hate passed on to you and you can't get over it...
