I went and saw Amon Amarth last night. I was in the mosh pit pretty much the whole song and they played a double set. I got home covered in blood, beer, and sweat(hardly any of it mine). Then, i woke up this morning and could hardly stand. The thing is, i don't regret it, at all. my friends and i had so much fun! I feel like i shouldnt have enjoyed it as much as i did.

Are you the same way?

edit: i figured might put a video for those who aren't familiar with the band!:D

I enjoy metal shows. However, moshing was never a big part of it for me. For me just standing there and watching the band suited me well. Even then the only shows that had moshing that was required were the Vader, Kreator, and Kataklysm shows I saw in LA. I'm a rather skinny dude and the fact itself doesn't lend me any favors when 250 + lbs guys want to work off their "I work in a gas station and my life sucks" frustration. Not to mention some people go overboard with it.

I am content with standing there, crossing my arms, and listening.

Hell yeah :p I'm going to download this year so i'll be getting completely battered, just like last year. I have the wonderful tendency to jump into pits filled with guys twice my size (and I am by no means small).

By and large, no not really. I'd prefer to be up front where I can really see what's going on onstage. If the show is small enough though, and I'm with my buddies, I have been known to get my mosh on. Story: The Veer Union played a show at my university in '09. It was a small show, intended to be outside and LOUD but due to weather, we had to move it indoors. The problem was, the only available space was...the mailroom? The band was totally chill about it and although soundcheck took MUCH longer than they would have liked because things kept breaking (at one point we borq'd the sound board so badly that the guitarist handed his axe to me and said "just play something, I've gotta fix this") the show was great. They did a cover of Umbrella by Rhianna to which my buddy, "Wrench" and I promptly looked around and started a mosh pit. The singer promptly ignored the lyrics and sighed, "Only at Clarkson..."

WALL! OF! DEATH!! WALL! OF! DEATH!!

*ahem* Sorry.

I do like moshing, but unfortunately I'm a skinny wee bastard. Limited stamina and the ever present threat of being broken in half by other, bulkier participants mean I don't tend to stay in the pits for long periods of time.

The first time I was in a pit was not voluntary. Some guy shoved me in and within about 5 seconds I was on the ground and other people were tripping over me and landing on my leg. It wasn't broken, but I couldn't move the next day without massive amounts of pain. But for some reason it didn't put me off. I enjoyed the chaos of the brief duration I was still standing enough that even the threat of broken bones couldn't dissuade me from wanting another go at it. Preferably one I'd be prepared for.

Moshing is fun, it's agressive and goes with the music but usually only happens when not everyone knows the words to the songs their singing and feel the need to sing along. I was at Sabaton and Accept when they were in Montreal (first canadian show!!!) and EVERYONE was to focused on them...Accept there was moshing but it's Accept.
