Are you the same way?
No, I don't like moshing. I like to watch others do it though, but I also like seeing bands as close as possible and it annoys me that that's where the moshing happens, at the front of the stage. The moshers usually aren't even fucking looking at the band, can't they do that shit in the back, away from everyone else?

As a performer, watching an audience mosh to your stuff is cool, though. It gets annoying though when the more attention-seeking ones start getting up onstage and fucking with your shit, but usually if you kick them they fall off the stage and then it's all good.

thanks for your opinion, the whole "idiot" thing could have easily been left out though. And rough is the point.
I'm pretty sure even people who mosh agree they look like idiots when they are moshing. Well, I hope they do, because it's true. There is nothing visually appealing about it in the slightest, and I'm certain that's not the point of it.

It's not offensive in the slightest - and if I think people moshing look like a pack of idiots surely I'm permitted to say that?

I mean, it's a group of sweaty people (most of whom are males with long hair) who smell severely, jumping up and down and pushing each other whilst screaming. I'm not insulting them in any way shape or form - I'm just saying, when they are moshing it's quite funny. If you were to look at it like an alien coming to Earth for the first time, you'd laugh and think they looked like idiots too. Another note worth mentioning is I only saw a mosh for the first time two years ago - so it's all new and strange to me.

For me, it completely depends upon the vibe being given off by the band, and how the crowd is receiving it. That being said, I generally wind up moshing for at least a part of most of the metal or punk shows I go to.

It's important to keep in mind that a couple of drunk assholes pushing everybody around them does not a mosh pit make. Protip: if nobody is pushing back, you're not in a pit, you're just being a dick.

I really can't understand people who dismiss moshing as beneath them, or a practice only for hicks and neckbeards. If you don't express your enjoyment of music that way that's fine, but nobodies forcing you to be in a pit. I can understand having bad experiences with the practice, but it's the generally fault of those specific individuals involved, and not the practice itself (unless you find getting sweaty and dizzy a bad experience). I suppose I'm just asking you keep an open mind, and try not to judge harshly. Less name-calling would also be appreciated.

Hah, a friend of mine had the strangest story (and pic) of a mosh pit he was involved in. Long story short, some guy in the middle of it got his nipple ripped off.

Yeah you read it right.

So I don't think I will being doing any non-nipple friendly moshes in the future.

I was at The Children of Bodom Concert 2 weeks ago where they were being backed by Ensiferum and Amon Amarth.
I went in with a horrible back pain I had for weeks, came out with a cut on my ear and was too tired to lift my arms over my head for the next few days.
Did I regret it? No.

I enjoy Mosh pits though I've never been to some of the worst ones where everyone is freely throwing punches around.
