It's a lot of fun for any FPS or third-person shooter to have Johnny Cash's "When the Man Comes Around" blaring while you carve up your enemies like turducken.

And Andy Williams' "Music to Watch Girls By" seems appropriate while playing any Dead or Alive game. Which I guess is not the point of this thread, but there you have it.

I'll play "I Hope You Die" by Bloodhound Gang when I'm playing Ninja Gaiden II. The funny thing is that when Ryu has the claws equipped and you're not moving him around, while he's standing and moving his arms and legs in his little fighting stance, he moves in synchronicity with the song.

GTA San Andreas + Wesley Willis. There's nothing like being chased by cops in a cross-country escape route, with good ol' Wesley shouting "Rock 'n Roll McDonalds".
Win.

"Face Down" By Red Jumpsuit Apparatus is my Wc3 battle.net song, that's probably innapropriate but I just seem to play better with it on.

Apart from that I mostly listen to songs like "Eye of the Tiger", "The Final countdown" and "You're the Best" (Survivor, Europe, Joe Esposito respectively) which are great songs for killing people.

I almost always stick to instrumental stuff. The 300 or Alexander soundtrack is perfect to play with Rome: Total War. Vangelis and Tangerine Dream go well with Mass Effect, and Hans Zimmer with Call of Duty 4. For me it all depends on keeping with the mood/setting of the game.

I used to listen to Red Hot Chili Peppers while playing Star Wars Battlefront 2...I don't know if that counts for much. I also listen to Edguy (newer stuff) and gothic metal when I play Fire Emblem...don't know how much that counts for, either.

Normally I listen to Dragonforce and other metal bands when I play games.

You can't control what plays on your Ipod during shuffle. It can lead to some good combos, like 'Psychobilly Freakout' playing in the middle of a hectic TF2 firefight, but it can lead to funny scenarios (ever play L4D while listening to Billie Jean?)

Yes, my taste is very inappropriate.
Death Metal. ;D For example: Cannible Corpse, AOAA, Job For A Cowboy, Necropsy, Morbid Angel, etc. =]

I listen to my mad indie compilation of experimental sound (mostly looped tracks of cats squalling, with someone who sounds like Kermit the Frog reciting the alphabet backwards) while playing Rock Band.

If I'm playing a multiplayer FPS, the music just distracts me. If I'm rocking out to Metallica or something, I can't hear someone sneaking up on me, or the cries of my teammates when I do something stupid.

I used to listen to a Linkin Park / t.A.T.U. playlist when I played FFVII, though :p

I play Rammstein, System Of a Down and Serj Tankian whilst playing WW2 shooters and RTS games.

Imagine legions of AMERICANA being decimated by panzer grenadiers whilst "lie, lie, lie" is playing on in the background. You get the idea.
Serj Tankian's music is like audio sex. He's got the voice of an angel.

For FPSes, however, I'd have to say opera. COD:WAW + Ave Maria = complete serenity of the mind.

Music is the only thing that keeps me sane when grinding MMOs by myself. I listen to music ranging from sugary J-pop to Killswitch Engage, so I've always got something weird playing at any given moment.
