...eh, I live here. It's not a case of "like" or "dislike" for me right now.

How do you love a nation, other than a drastic misplacement of faith? A country is just a series of artificially created lines on a map with xenophobic people on either side of that line. I speak English, so I can think of at least six other countries I'd be understood in, I'm used to an industrial/capitalistic lifestyle, which I could find in about 15 other countries, and I've been raised on the idea (but not the reality) of freedom, which I can find almost anywhere in the world. So, as an American, I could live comfortably without much change in Australia, U.K., South Africa, Canada, or Ireland and I'd still be surrounded by people who are apathetic, under educated, xenophobic, and being manipulated by their government. What's the difference?

My country (the UK) is nowhere near perfect, our government is terrible, the weather is indecisive to put it mildly, and I am ashamed of the actions of most people here that are my age.

But, despite it all, I still absoluteley love my country. I love it's achievements, it's history and it's countryside. Nowhere do I feel better than on that pleasant green island . . .

I live in Finland, so... the country itself is awesome, but the people who live in it are pricks. I went with "I sorta dislike it".

Ugh, my country ... okay, I love what the States is supposed to be. I love what Washington and Franklin and Jefferson and Adams created it to be. I don't care so much for what it's turned into, though. The people here are mostly fat, self-righteous, ultraconservative morons, and the government officials are approximately so. Everyone seems to be obsessed with maintaining their own very narrow personal worldview and lifestyle, so much so that they see the need to impose it on everyone else. Case in point, some Mormons are knocking on my door at this very second. Or, we have people trying to impose laws to tell us what video games our kids should play, or what superstitions our kids should learn about in science classes, or whether I should be allowed to marry my boyfriend. Or, we start wars against people because they have a different form of economy than we do. This frustrates me to no end. Also, the government lies to us all the time, and everyone believes them. I don't consider myself a conspiracy theorist, but I think it's pretty obvious that every time our government does something, they tell us it's about `protecting our freedom' or some patriotic bullshit like that when it's really just about global economic investment or personal revenge or something like that. I do love the idea of a republic, don't get me wrong. But when it's used in this way by this many stupid people, I have a big problem with it. So, to recap, I love the government, I hate the people who run the government, and I hate the people who elect them.

I've always wondered though, is it really all that bad here, comparatively? You live in a place like this and get used to it, and you don't live anywhere else, and you get that `greener on the other side' feeling, but is it really better across the pond or up north or wherever? I'm sure everywhere has it's problems, I mean we're all human so there's not going to be such a thing as a perfect government or a perfect society. I guess what I'm saying is, I'm hardly qualified to judge my country based on its actions and its worldviews, when it's all I really know. Maybe it's just human nature to be an ignorant asshole :p

Oh, and the internet and mobile providers cheat us out of all our money. I hate that too.

I have a friend who despises the French. He lived there for a while during his child hood he grew to hate them because of how he was treated by some of them, Although he only has real hatred for the upper class he said they always acted pretentious and were outright jerks just because he was a foreigner. I don't have a problem with the french but it seems manny others do is disliking the french actually common in europe?

I think I'll stay here in England. It's nice, and sounds better eveyr moment I hear of bad things happening in other countries. May visit other parts of the UK at some point.

My friend likes Australia much better than the UK, but I wouldn't be able to stand spiders.
I'd like to go to America at some point, but fear being shot.
Japan would be nice, but the cities are apparently very cramped, and need machines to provide enough oxygen. Also, good luck getting me to learn a language.

Why did you hate it so much?

Good for you the chances of that are very low. Much to the contrary of what media tells you not everyone in America is packing heat and just looking for an excuse to use it.

Here is a fun fact. Adams took what amounted to a giant metaphorical shit on the first Amendment during the second year of his presidency. [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alien_and_Sedition_Acts] The United States is overall closer to the original goals of the early documents than we have ever been. Neat huh?

If we're talking about whether I love my country in a patriotic manner, no way. I am infact very much against patriotism in general, and have written in detail on my blog [http://simalacrum.blogspot.com/] why I think so.

In other terms, England aint too bad. Much prefer it up here in the North than in the South though.

Really bad CV from the Cold War. Also it gets most of the blame for handeling any event after 9/11 badly.

I live in the Netherlands and yeah it's good though it has its negative points. Too much latent racism/yapping about religious things (atheist/humanist, can't be fucking bothered), but that's really more of a western world problem than a problem specific to my country. The government's a bit shitty, but governments are rarely what you want them to be, especially with multiple party systems.

But other than that. Yes, I do love it.

Hi,I'm English, have a guess at the rest...

I Love English pride, and all that it means to be English.

However i Hate the Government, the dick heads in Gangs that go around with guns thinking their all bad, and the Twats (am i allowed to say that here?) that go around beating the crap out of anyone who looks at them funny because their paranoid and reatrdedly stupid.

Appart from that Englands alright i guess, appart from maybe the weather....

Living in insignificant Norway, I can be proud enough at times when people ask me what Norway is like, or even acknowledge its existence. However, I think more often than not that our government ought to be kicked out on the ocean. Hence I don't vote. They're all just as shit.

Well, at least we have cheaper healthcare than the US. *Shrugs*

Patriotism is, in my eyes, a plague, that should be abolished along with national anthems and flags.

What do you mean? The government? The culture? Or the land itself?

Borders are subjective lines in sand, I couldn't care less about the government, or the flag, but I'll be damned...the UK can be a beautiful place. We've just put most of it under concrete...

It's just a place to live in, I don't have any sentiments towards it, neither positive, nor negative ones.

I don't think I'm capable of loving a country, (except for Japan,) but I like my home town.

I'm from Germany, and I love my country.
Also, do you know what I don't understand?
I can't understand how people can't understand the simple concept of the appreciation of a shared national identity (patriotism).
I don't want to offend anyone, but if one can't understand this (no participation needed for understanding) it's pretty sad...

But being a German patriot has a pretty big down-side.
If you express the slightest notion of patriotism or appreciation for past / present military achievements in public, there are at least 9001 German liberals / leftist waiting in line to call you a facist nazi-pig who hates human-life in general.
Pretty fair and justified, isn't it?
