I'm pretty indifferent. I mean, I get annoyed when people make assumptions and the like but I've often wondered what it would be like to live in a more exotic place than the UK.

i really dislike the UK, just because from where i am, i dont see any reason to be proud to be british (being descendant of people who killed and subjugated a quarter of the globe isnt something i tend to cheer about) other than it being a democracy, i can say that given the choice of living somewhere like canada, australia, japan or thailand, i'd take it in an instant

I live In Northern Ireland and growing up here I was lucky to have only been 6 when the Good Friday agreement was signed...But even so very little has changed here, yes some places are nice and the people can be great craic, but in general its a shit hole, and you really really have to watch yourself, plus now bombings have become more frequent the real IRA hav popped up and it just gets so sickening. plus nothing gets done in the country as we have a 5 party collation government that's not interested in Northern Ireland and focuses too much on unionism and nationalism i mean it took them 12 years to get the devolution of police justice sorted out. I really hate this country

.... and my rant is over =)

I live in wales, and I love it. The only things I don't love about it is the city I live in, and "Britain." To anyone else in the world, Britain means England.

It's just another place on this Earth where although we are granted rights they are taken away when the government see fit. I see no reason to feel proud of my country - none of it's 'achievements' were contributed to by me. I feel no real connection to 'Great' Britain.

It's a love-hate relationship.
Indeed. I like the country but dislike the people for the most part. I also dislike the government.

I am not patriotic in the slightest either, we don't choose where we are born and I haven't personally contributed to any of the countries achievements.

I'm Welsh, I love my country and I also love Britain to a lesser extent. The problem there being people tend to equate "Britain" with "England". That said I lived in England from the age of 14 to 41 and my permanent home is still there (I'm back in Wales during term-time) and it was fine except for the usual condescending comments, but that's a problem with the English as individuals, not their country as a whole.

I live in the UK and that is all. I like England but wouldn't actively do anything really to benefit just UK itself for just the sake of it if it didn't follow my own personal interests as well.

I used to be disgusted by it, but I'm slowly slowly starting to hate it less when looking at other countries.

I'm from Germany, and I love my country.
Also, do you know what I don't understand?
I can't understand how people can't understand the simple concept of the appreciation of a shared national identity (patriotism).
I don't want to offend anyone, but if one can't understand this (no participation needed for understanding) it's pretty sad...
Heh... way to call out the people who think they're all progressive and superior. It does kind of bug me, too. I get it if you just don't feel any sentiment for your country. I think it's stupid, but I get it. But people who act like they're some new breed of human who has no understanding of any of the "flawed" ideas that other humans share annoy the living hell out of me.
Thanks a lot, this statement has just directly warped you to my friendlist :D
(I hope you don't mind... >.>)
Dawww... I feel all warm and fuzzy now. ^_^

I don't mind at all. I mean, that's what the friend list function is for, right?

No, patriatism is something thats always eluded me. Why a man would display such pride and affection towards a large mass of land is a mystery to me.
It's not the land, it's the country. The society, the culture, the people, and everything else that makes a country
To me its a large chunk of rock inhabited by people, most of whom are assholes. All that other stuff is excess, that barely manges to function to a significant degree, its a good thing you left out government too, because that wouldn't have been a point in your favour.
Then go find an island and live by yourself
Yeah but then I wouldn't have anyone to kill, significantly hampering the quality and enjoyment of my leisure time.

I'm not one of those people who thinks America is a craphole and I don't think that I could do too much better than the current people running it. Honestly, the people who want to move out of here should get out and be quiet, because I don't want to hear their cynical speech.
I love my country enough to die for it. Through all its faults, missed opportunities, and general nonsense, it's still my home, my family, and my nation. I love America.
God, that sounds sappy.
