My brother owns a couple of replica "battle ready" katanas but I don't own anything longer or sharper than a butterknife myself. As for the zombie bit, although I am currently reading The Zombie Survival Guide, I don't buy into those specific zombies. The zombies I'm more worried about are ones that can spread the "virus" or whatever via more than bites et al. I'm worried about some of their splattered blood getting into one of my many cuts (f*cking cat). So I won't own a sword or anything because in my eyes if the zombies are already that close than I'm already dead.

That's my excuse. Take it or leave it.
Fair enough. However, if they are the "modern, super fast, one drop of blood can turn you" zombies, then I doubt it would matter how far away you were. We would all be in a great deal of trouble, period.
I probably wouldn't last 10 minutes in that apocalypse.

...maybe I would since I live in a basement suite with only a couple of tiny windows, but definitely no longer than 2 days. I'd be out of water by then and would have to trek outside...

Nope. I wouldn't waste time trying to 'kill' the zombies. Just incapping them would be fine...

... and for THAT I've got my trusty ol' bo (staff). Just a quick hit to their kneecaps (from a safe distance) and they won't ever get near me. Sure it may not be as gory, but I'll be one of the ones surviving more easily, ha!

Yeah, but only for show. None of them are sharp, nor made in such a way as would allow for easy use in combat. It's pure decoration

Yeah a plethora of plastic ones. But I have a silver letter opener, if that counts.

And an axe. They're so much more baddasserer.

Escapist's Note: To all those that say, "Those aren't REAL swords!" Miyamoto Musashi, the most famous Japanese Swordsman and author of the Five Rings used wooden swords more often then real katana. In fact, his most famous sword duel was one with a wooden sword he whittled from an oar on the boat ride to the island (where the duel was taking place).
This makes them anymore real as swords how? at the end of the day it all comes down to opinion and preference.
What I meant was to use it as an example of famous swordsmen that used wooden swords. I should've been more specific about that statement. Looking back it does seem out of place for this thread, but it would have been better if I had ended it saying, "Therefore in terms of personal preference, like Miyamoto's, mine is the use of practice swords or wooden bokens over steel blades."

I hope that makes more sense. ;)

We used to have a family sword, but I believe my father sold it. I was disappointed to say the least. So no, not any longer.
I like your avatar.

Yes, I have a Celtic short sword. Stays in my closet most of the time, 'cause I haven't bothered to find a place to display it.
You have a fine avatar, as well.

I have a half decent basement as well, that is being used as a food pantry as well. I might make it a bit longer, but the inevitable venturing would occur. We shall simply have to be optimistic that when we do get zombies... they will be of the slow and killable kind.

not at the moment, but I want to buy one and a crossbow but there are no suppliers here in WA so I'll probably just get a 303 instead, more efficiant at killing too.
