My brother owns a couple of replica "battle ready" katanas but I don't own anything longer or sharper than a butterknife myself. As for the zombie bit, although I am currently reading The Zombie Survival Guide, I don't buy into those specific zombies. The zombies I'm more worried about are ones that can spread the "virus" or whatever via more than bites et al. I'm worried about some of their splattered blood getting into one of my many cuts (f*cking cat). So I won't own a sword or anything because in my eyes if the zombies are already that close than I'm already dead.

I have 2 Katanas by Musashi, but I'm more fond of my Cold Steel Recon Scout. It's supposed to be a large bowie knife, but at 8mm thick its more like a sharp pry bar!

I own a single sword that is perfectly capable of killing a similarly armed foe in a duel that I won as a prize in a fencing tournament. I also am in possession of five functional fencing foils at a given moment and enough parts that I could presumably piece together another three.

I own several, I collect blades as a hobby, only one (sword) is of fighting quality though. Most of my knives are fighting grade though.

Yes they can't walk but unless you want to have a horde of zombies biting your ankles it's safer to get the head shot!

No, but I wish I did. A straight blade katana would be fine, but a bastard sword would be ideal (zombie purposes being what they are.)

I can't really keep weapons in my dorm anyway. I COULD improvise until I acquired more suitable weaponry.

Are the fencing foils dulled for tournaments, or do you literally have blade tipped swords?

Second, how effective will that be against zombies? (Do you have one with a left and right handle grip for dual wielding purposes?)

Fair enough. However, if they are the "modern, super fast, one drop of blood can turn you" zombies, then I doubt it would matter how far away you were. We would all be in a great deal of trouble, period.
