yes there should be a new version of gta that is set in England. i sometimes get tired of most things being in the US. It would be good if they set it in London without the people being either cockney or posh, maybe they could throw in some people from cornwell or Norfolk or up north, that would really strain other peoples understanding of English. would be good if they linked up to major cities in either England or Britain as a whole, but maybe that would be a bit to ahrd to work out, unless you can pay to fly on planes that take you to wales/ north of England/scotland/Ireland. A problem for me would be that no one in this coutnry has guns as a legal thing, so how can the police with 2 stars shoot u, unless they make that irrelevant and put police officers in with guns anyway.

In otherwords apart from taller buildings, and a more regimented street system, New York is suprisingly similar to London..
Fine, even using your own logic, London comes off as a bad choice - I don't want to play in a city that feels the same as somewhere that is supposed to be completely different.

Also, it would be hard to put London into a game scenario without putting invisible barriers up at the edge or having a random sea circle the city, especially considering one of the main features of the city is the river.

True, this island-ification took place with the other GTA games but Liberty/Vice's real-world companions are somewhat island-like in nature or at the very least coastal. San Andreas got away with this too with the exception of Las Venturas whose real world counterpart is landlocked; but I would argue that the fact that San Andreas was the size of a state prevented this from being really noticeable. If you wanted to do this with London, you'd have to include other British towns or cities; GTA Birmingham...really?

The big problem with this is one of image, marketability and translation.

Everyone in the Western World is intimately aquainted with American culture, 90% of the films which succeed in many regions is American, a lot of music and nearly all hip hop which is successful internationally is American, most of the worlds global food chains etc are American. From England to Australia everyone in the West has their idea of what America is.

Half of the fun of GTA is the satire of America's hyper capitalist culture and the percieved corruption of its ideals. You could do just as cutting satire for Britain but who is really going to understand it half as well? Maybe our direct European neighbours might pick up on it, and probably the Australians as well, but the Japanese and the Americans? The Russians and Spanish? Forget about it.

That said London really is a fantastic (and underused) location for a game to be set, and being British myself I'd support it for sure. Can't see it happening though.

As said before, they already did.

BUT they really should make a new GTA set in London. Think Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels/Snatch/Layer Cake/etc in game-form. Insane characters, wacky events, fantastic accents, you name it. It'd be brilliant.

There's an armed response unit in the UK. It'd be difficult, but very interesting. Besides, a new police-system in a GTA game would be nice.

Yeah i know, my dad works for fire arms in london. he still hasn't shot anyone yet. I guess they could make a new system, but i just cant see how you can go from normal police officers to the armed responce unit, unless they use the riot patrol or tasers or something.

YES! And you could have Russell Brand, Noel Fielding and Johnathon Ross voice characters *nod*. I mean Noel Fielding could play the part of the oddball character, Brand could play some slightly harder version of himself, and Ross could present a crude radio show.

I'd like to see a GTA centered around south east England, you could have London (with its lovable cockneys), Brighton (with its fabulous gays), Oxford (with its snooty elite) and even the isle of wight (with its, errr sheep farmers). It'd be awesome.

It wouldn't be hard to circumvent the weapon problem either, the plot could just involve some terrorist attack that had meant the police had been authorised firearms.

Good idea, they could do it in a sort of San Andreas sort of way, maybe not quite so much water, but make it a sort of pastiche of the area.

Plus it's GTA the whole weapons thing could sort of be circumvented by it just being GTA :p

Protip: Guns aren't illegal in the UK. Certain types, such as assault rifles and semi-automatic guns, yes, but not all guns are illegal.

That's irrelevant anyway, it should be set in the Channel Islands.

Natural barriers, easy enough to put bridges across, better fire-arms laws, corrupt police force, what more can you ask for?

A stated there are already two GTA games set in London. But should it be remade in 3-D? To answer that, I have a simple question: Would it annoy Keith Vaz? If yes, remake it. Now. (As Atkinson is no longer a major threat, I have turned my attention to Vaz. Hope no one minds.)

I'm generally against any England based American game - they're waaay over-stereotypical to the point where it just gets boring and samey.
GTA's not an American game, Rockstar North is based in Edinburgh.

Otherwise maybe a GTA:UK, though would have to shrink the scale down a bit as it would be too huge of a game to be completely sandbox. Maybe have bridges to each island setup connecting London to Edinburgh, Cardiff & Belfast.
...I, er...have really no idea where to start here...

Bridges connecting London to Cardiff, Edinburgh and Belfast. Wow...

Maybe in the setting Global warming hit and moved all Capital Cities closer to each other.

I'd like to see a "mission character" called Taffy O' Jones from Cardiff... Maybe I could do the voice for him.

You've misread my argument London doesnt feel like NY, bu alot of the element s that makes a city intersting are present in both, and indeed in varying amounts in all the GTA cities!

Places can be very similar and very different at the same time.

You do realise how huge London is? Easially bigger in area that San Andreas' game world. Isolating it in a San Andreas fastion would be ok.

I would do anything if it meant listening to witty British slang whilst moving down chimmney sweepers. As an American, I am fascinated by the British.
