Are you just talking about just gel or hair products in general?

I use a dabble of Fudge to give it some texture, and the best bit is that it also smells like fucking caramel !, not that I've noticed that much...

And what you're describing sounds like they're wiping buckets of the stuff in.
Where does one get one of those :<
I think you can only buy them in barbers/hair dressers (I'm in England by the way), but it's a pretty popular brand in them, so it shouldn't be too difficult to find.

Or just order a pot online.
Boots any chance? :p
Dear fucking God, do you have any idea how long I spent initially looking for the stuff and some prick was loading it into fucking Boots and now it doesn't matter because my fucking barber has it anyway but the principle of it is still fucking ridi-

*passes out*

I don't use hair gel, but I occasionally use hair spray to make my hair not do the Justin Bieber thing. Why? BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO LOOK LIKE HIM. And naturally, my hair does that goofy looking dome. Frankly, I think that's reason enough to wear gel occasionally.

I use hairgel--not because I enjoy styling by any stretch, but because I live in Wyoming, the single windiest state in the U.S. Otherwise, my hairdo would be would be all over the place the moment I set foot out the door.

I don't argue with anyone's right to tame their hair as they choose, but there are people who use too much. WAY too much. And it does look greasy and horrible.

Also, speaking as a girlfriend, I do not want to have to wipe my hand off if I touch his hair, or be unable to rest my cheek against his head. I find even minimal amounts of gel/product/wax/pomade/WHATEVER repulsive to the touch, much as I might admire the artistic effect they achieve.

Perhaps it's a traumatic childhood thing - I did a LOT of gymnastics competitions, and the hairspray/gel combos I had plastered on me to helmet-ise my hair have clearly scarred me for life =P

I hate the stuff. It's nasty and sticky (and sometimes smells funky). My hair is also a bit on the short side, so using it would just make it look greasy. Naw, if I want my hair to be spiky of ragged or something then just take a shower, wash hair, dry hair with towel and ignore hair afterwards. It will be standin' in all kinds of directions, and looks just as good. *cough*

I use wax because there is no other way to tame my hair and stop it curling up mad-scientist style. I use it sparingly, and when my hair is longer i just straighten it instead. I tend to get a cow-lick when it's short so I use more wax then.
I never have it in spikes, but I do like to sculpt it a bit when I have the time to spare. The people you're describing sound like dickhead footballer types... there is no problem with gel unless you slop tonnes of the stuff on. Small amounts make a real difference and are barely noticeable. Wax is even less noticeable although it does mean i have to wash my hair every day.

I don't use it, but why all the strong hate? It's only for making your hair look good, not an evil substance designed for taking over the world...

Not really. Most of the gel that I've used in the past ended up damaging my hair. Because of the fact that I'm trying to grow it out, I prefer to not touch it.

When i had long hair i didn't use any, but now when my hair is short i little bit hair wax does the job, and i mean a little not like i've been dipped in oil or have had my hair set in concrete

I don't think any amount of hair gel would ever get my hair to stay up even if I wanted it to. But I supposed if my hair was short I might consider using it to give it spikes or some shit I dunno...

Gel sucks, it always has. I use a type of putty. So long as it has a matte finish and you pretty much only know it's there because your hair is defying gravity :p or it smells of a product then it's all good. Unfortunately, not as many people as there should be use such products.

How else would i keep my hair like this?
Egg whites.
I shit you not. I was just talking to a girl at work the other day and she said that yeah, she used to have a mohawk (now has dreads) and thats what she did. And pointed out that all the old school punks, the ones with the awesome mows, they use egg whites and a iron to set it that way. It also stops the problem people get with gels of it drooping after a few hours.
Sounds like a lot of hassle and funny as hell but yeah.
Ive tried that once and it has the opposite effect, it leaves nasty looking white things in your hair when it dries. plus getting just the whites its a pain.. much easier to spend 5 bucks a month for some gel.. although i used hairspray more.. cheaper and works better

I remember it was around Grade 4 or so when boys started using that in their hair. They all had the same short hair, and then that wave in the front that they gelled up. I appreciated the fact that they were going into uncharted territory and actually making an attempt at grooming. If done right, with the right product, I think it can enhance your appearance greatly, and the effort is always nice.
