I stopped watching anime some years back. I still read manga though. Fairy Tail is currently my favorite...well it has been my favorite for a while.

I watch a deal of anime and read manga occasionally(only got through one full series) though most of it is generally crap if you ask me, though that applies to everything. I find it kind of funny though that the best anime style show is from America.(Avatar FTW)

Been watching anime since the 80s. I miss the days where almost no one knew what anime was & you had to buy fansubs of VHS through SASE & the fandom felt like an exclusive club. The new generation of fans & mass availability are offputting to say the least. Most of the manga I own is untranslated.

I haven't watched too much anime, but thanks to an app on my iPod I read tons of manga (iManga X).

In fact, my avatar is from a manga I read.

You do know otaku means basement dweller in Japanese, right?
Isnt it neet and hikikomori
If you mean my avatar, no.

If you meant something else, then I don't know what you're saying.

Somehow I never found myself able to appreciate something that deals in excessively emotional responses and thinly concealed sexual repression.

A little. I'm watching Death Note and cowboy bebop, but I'm not very impressed. I just don't think the style is something for me.

media =/= genre and honestly almost every media does that.
I'm not entirely sure whether in your opinion anime is a medium, or a genre. The last time I checked it wasn't the sole user of illustrated books and animation, so I'm going to go with it being a genre.

You're pretty right in that other genres also show some of the same characteristics. Anything involving angsty teenagers is a sure hit on the excessive emotional response thingie. It's not really a coincidence either I'm no fan of twilight and sitcoms.

I'm not entirely sure though what other genre displays the same excessive amounts of repressed sexuality as anime. Mostly it's just the good ol' oversexed approach, which features just as many DD cup sizes, but far fewer schoolgirls wielding said cups.

I've liked my share of it, but I don't like broadcasting that I like the medium.
No offense to any fans, but the just flat out weirdness of a bunch of y'all makes anyone even remotely interested in the medium be immediately thought of as a social pariah. Hell, at this point in time, people who just like comic books are considered less weird than those that like manga/anime.

That being said, I'm totally in love with Tiger & Bunny that's currently being aired. Best thing from Japan in a while. Fuck yeah, Japan get more superhero anime goddammit.

I've watched Anime with a few friends a couple times but it was sort of in a mocking way as we were laughing our asses off at how rediculous it was. I'm not saying the entire median of it is crazy, just the shows that we watched in particular. I think it was called Girls Bravo if I remember right, the portrayals of girls on that show were incredibly laughable. Also, I have never read manga either.
