When this whole idea of LP's comes to mind, one word echoes determinedly through my skull:

Spoilerriffic.

If I want to know whether a game is worthwhile, I'll ask friends that played it or read a review.
LP's quite frankly sound like a profound waste of time, but that's just my opinion, and if the commentary is Unskippable-esque then I can understand why people watch them.

This is one of the things I do hate about LP's are the Mid-night released LP's. Some schmuck just bought Greatest Game in the War 4 so he decided to point his camera at his TV while he plays it for the first time and either spend the whole time ohing and awing it, or dies every 5 seconds and hates the game. It's cheap way to get views, it's lazy, and it pisses me off that they have the game and I have to wait a few more days til I get play it.

EDIT: Sorry for an odd transition there. I meant to include that with these MRLP the game can be spoiled in its entirety mere hours after its release.

If the commentary is funny and the game lends itself to comedy even when it's being serious, yes, I do.

I watch a couple, my favourite one has to be Spoony's one for SWAT 4, it's hilarious how irritated he gets by it.

"Sir, you're in my spot"

Other than that, I'll watch maybe one or two, but that's the only one that comes to mind.
Hah, yeah those videos are brilliant. His recent one was epic. As soon as the mission started: "Sir, you're in my spot."

His flip-out at the start of the 13th level was particularly hilarious.

"I have the captain...thing. I AM YOUR KING!"

I've seen a couple of LPs, though, but my favorite is Spoony's of SWAT 4. Here's hoping he does the Stetchkov Syndicate in there.

I've watched maybe...3 LP's? One of Silent Hill, one of MGS4 and an absolutely abysmal LP for Armored Core 4.

Also read the Jedi Jesus KotOR2 LP, which was all sorts of awesome.

I heard that, Curtis.

And yes I do. Though only found the Spoony One to be funny.

Yeah, that's why I don't watch any new games, mostly older ones that I missed out on or ones I've never heard of.

Too many to count hnnnngggg..

The ones that are notable tho are chuggaaconroys LP's, Ultrajmans Metroid fusion 1% run (this one's pretty entertaining), And let's not forget the insanity that is called Cloud8745's IWBTG.

I used to watch games parodies on youtube but my favourite are the WoW tankspot walkthroughs. Apart of that there were just some nice videos from a user named arteska, and some nice machinima parodies by nhym and his guild. Most videos thou either are awful play from 12 y old (at least brain age) or the music and commentaries have nothing to do with the the action and are not even funny.

Honor marks for the classic Onyxia Wipe video, and also Leeroy jenkins.

Truth be told I have been interested in doing a LP-like project. Pretty much a commentary but with filmed footage placed in at appropriate times. 1 idea being a montage of people crying overly dramatic during the Aerith scene. However then it might just come off as trying to do too many things instead on one thing well. That, and I have yet to purchase a suitable capture device

I watched an LP for Final Fantasy VII, but only after buying Crisis Core.

Perhaps not the best way to handle it.

Sometimes I do, for example I watched the Lets Play Shamus Young did recently.
I have no idea why I enjoy watching them, funny comments I guess?

I haven't really watched a lot, though, I have watched Spoony's Let's Play of SWAT 4, and a couple of random play-throughs of older games.

Not sure if it counts...but I have recently been watching a stream on Justin.tv from a user named Michael_2010; he's pretty awesome and plays through a lot of games.

I watch lets plays but I won't just watch any old thing because there's too much shit, here's a rundown of lets plays as far as I understand them:

Speed runs: people with too much free time tearing a video game apart as fast as possible because they know it inside out, normally has no commentary. I once saw someone play through a game PLAYING 2 PLAYERS AT THE SAME TIME! If that's not too much free time I dunno what is. Can be entertaining, but it largely depends on the game and what 'tool assisted' tricks they're using if any.

Serious commentary lets play: The most boring of the 3 in my opinion, unskilled to average players trying to take the game seriously, normally accompanied by uninteresting commentary banter which is usually game trivia.

Casual commentary lets play: the best category I think for entertainment but only if they get it right. Unskilled to average player(s) playing through a game but with some kind of amusing angle to it to make it all funnier to watch, like wacky editing, playing multi-player or even more then one person commentating with good conversation going on. The best of these I think are the ones where the player gets mad over something (but not over do it) or when there's good multi-player banter to cause that rage or other lolz.

of course there's also sub categorys like live recording and prerecorded, prerecorded is better imo. You feel like your time has been wasted less if they do even some half decent editing, not like those fools who think you want to see them play through Zelda 1 on a live feed not collecting any heart powerups.

Then there's blind running and semi blind running a game but those don't really matter as much unless you like watching people fail more.
