I'll go with D&D here, as that's the game implied. My rogue WAS an agnostic until Asmodeus turned his skin inside out and back to prove a point. My spellblade worships gods of the sun and moon, but not from the D&D deity list. In D20 Modern, my character is me, so nondenominational Protestant.

One NPC quote got all my characters on the Daedra train.

"You worship the Nine Divines, perhaps? Have they ever helped or harmed you? Of course not. Now, worship a Daedra Lord, and you get effects... bad ones, of course, but clear and measurable effects."

Good characters go for Azura every time.

Since im Christain, nope, I say they are real but they are not gods (in game people) they are like people like Shaogorath or aka ME just people that have alot of power, hoepfully you can become pwerful in skyrim as well...
Isn't god basically just a infinitely powerful and infinitely intelligent being? So by definition I guess you could say that the gods of Elder scrolls aren't technically gods, just higher beings.

I like it when religious people like you actually have proper definitions for things :)
There's too much blind faith going around.
Isn't having a proper definition for something a science? Also, WHEN did he mention blind faith? And you really did nothing but reiterate his post in your own words.

The only RPG god worth mentioning:

What have I done to displease theese gods? The only reason my rolls EVER succeed is because I assign my points in such a way that anything above a natural 4 will succeed. And don't even ask about my attack rolls.

I know he didn't mention blind faith, hence the fact that I didn't just reiterate what he said, I reacted, agreed with him and pointed out that not enough religious people actually take the time to think things through.

What is with all vigilante post monitoring? For an online forum, were doing all right quality of post-wise.
Chill.

nope. If I learned anything from Morrowind it's that gods (Aedra and Daedra alike) dont give a crap about you. It's like - "Oh hey, another possible Nerevarine. Let's see how long will he last".
Ok then what about the avatar of Akatosh coming in and saving the day. Or when they helped you to defeat Umaril
Never did actually like Oblivion Gods.. they just never were there, like Christian Gods and Christian Gods are boring as hell. Even in the books they were always all saint and good. But reading about the Aedra and Daedra in Morrowind you understood that they actually played a bigger role in the world. They were cruel and kind, silly and cunning at the same time. They felt REAL to me and Oblivion failed to provoke the same feelings. I don't really hate Oblivion but the game's Imperial Gods were a failure

In computer games that have them, I tend to worship something that will give my character a bonus or is in keeping with the character. In PnP games, I tend to select gods that allow lax worship (unless I'm playing some kind of priest/(un)holy character).

Thanks to a recent Extra credits I've been playing Dungeon Crawl Stone soup for a bit and am really impressed how they have done the gods in that. Rather than straightforward Good/Evil meter you have things that the god likes and things that it dislikes (Piety +/-) and things that will get you kicked/punished.

I don't necessarily worship the gods and Daedric Princes in Oblivion as go through the motions for all of them in order to get their stuff. My character has no shame about doing that and doesn't really care for the consequences, although he is mostly a good person (despite being a vampire for a short while).

In Video Game RPGs, it usually depends on the game. For instance, in fallout, which is heavily based off of the real world, and has the same gods/etc, I play my character as nonreligious, as I am a nonreligious fellow in real life and it is easiest for me to relate to a nonreligious character in a setting similar to the real world.

In a game like Neverwinter Nights, Icewind Dale, or BG, I can go both ways. It seems a bit odd to be a cleric of, say, Talos, considering the character's blood. One would think that an evil god like Talos would try to manipulate the (spoiler ahead) child of Baal, but it never really comes up. In general though, whatever god you worship in D&D games, it rarely seems to have an effect on anything. Just for fun, I made a Drow Cleric of Lloth in Neverwinter Nights II, just to see if it had an effect. Unfortunately, no-one seemed to care, including the PCs wood elf adoptive father. One would think that would be an awkward relationship.

In tabletop RPGs, I don't play characters that are religious, because I am always stuck with the role of the DM.

Being an actor I really like to examine characters that I control. It's what I love so much about pen and paper RPGs. When I'm role-playing, I'm not me. I like to play girl characters or black guys or homosexuals just so I can experience a wholly different life, and being an atheist I sometimes like to play religious characters. Mass Effect had no Gods or religion to speak of in the lore, but one time a few years ago I played through ME1 as though Shepherd were a cautious, God-fearing man who followed the teachings of the bible. It was interesting to play and feel how that mindset changed choices that I myself would have made.

You need an "Other" vote in your poll.

I worship Great Gazuga, Lord of the Cleansing, Eater of Lettuce, Leader of the Army of the Undead and Possibly Brain-Damaged. Behold!

I once played a pacifist cleric who worshiped Eldath, essentially the god of pacifism for anyone who is unfamiliar. Easily the most fun I have had with a character ever.
