I just like the gore to be according to what happens. If you get shot in the head, it's a mess. If you shoot some sort of alien made of concrete, it won't be very gory.

I played Left 4 Dead 2 with the low level of gore for ages because I found it distracting, it didn't add anything to the game, it was just horrible. I did turn it back on when the more comically morbid events were discussed on team chat.

Edit: I still prefer it without, what I'm saying it that it shouldn't be in there for the sake of it when in L4D2, it mostly is.

It's not completely necessary to my enjoyment of a game, but I love some over-the-top ridicules gore every now and then. In Fallout 3 it makes killing an enemy more satisfying.

It depends on the game. Some games revolve around blood and gore other games don't need it at all but the developers just shove it in there.

For example: God of War wouldn't be as good if there wasn't blood spraying everywhere because the game is made with the intention to have lots of violence and brutality and blood and gore. When you rip someone's head off with your bare hands it would be really strange and not satisfying at all if there wouldn't be blood spraying out of the neck.

Other games don't need that gore though. A good example is Team Fortress 2. I, as German, only got the censored version of the game in which when someone dies trough an explosion rubber ducks and cakes and unicycles fly through the air. But that just fit so well to the crazy cartoon styled game that I didn't even know I was playing the censored version until I saw a video of the American version where those guys explode with a blood cloud with their head and torso and limbs flying through the air.
But instead of getting an uncut-patch I left my version as it was because it just fit the game so much better in my opinion.

So in short: It really depends on the game.

If I do something that would result in a decapitation or arterial spray or leg amputation, I expect to see it. I hope I don't sound like a sadist, but it makes the game more fun!

Nope. Doesn't impact my enjoyment at all. Unless it is in a game that really doesn't call for it...like Animal Crossing. If there was blood and gore in that game, it would far less enjoyable.

It depends on the game really. It would be horrible in Mario or Zelda, but my favorite way to play Fallout 1 & 2 is to grab bloody mess and tag unarmed. Nothing quite like punching a guy in the eye and making half his torso explode. On the other hand I never liked the excessive amount of bleeding in Mortal Kombat, if the blood had been restricted to just the more brutal attacks and fatalities it would've worked fine for me.

Gore is usually a non-factor for me, although at times it can make a game more enjoyable. The only time a lack of gore is problem is when it breaks the atmosphere...because to me atmosphere is a very important part of a game's immersion level.

See Left 4 Dead 2 for example. In the censored version, zombies vanish the instant you shoot them with special ammo (type 'infected', highlight it, and hit delete. Same effect.) I didn't specifically want a game with lots of gore out of the Left 4 Dead games, but I couldn't take anything the game could throw at me seriously because it all seemed ridiculously unbelievable and thus immersion-breaking.

So what I'm getting at I guess is that +Gore doesn't make me want a game, but -Gore might put me off if it seems out of place.

I like blood and gore in my games, a lot; it makes me happy, but it's never a selling point to me. All that just helps my enjoyment, and I actually don't really have that many gorey games.

I think I love gore just because it always makes me laugh, but I dont really specifically choose my games soley due to the amounts of blood and violence.

Depends on the game, if the game is something along the lines of "Puff Fairy Princess 2" then it shouldnt have gore. But damn if its a shooter, I want to see heads poping like water balloons

Not really... I can play a game no matter how bloody it is. But you're not the only one... getting a perfect shot on a super mutant and watching their limbs fly off and their head disintegrate into a cloud of gore in slow motion is amazing, no matter who you are.

But I don't buy a game just because it's bloody and I don't stay away from a game because it's too bloody. But I will say shooting someone in the face and having them only just fall over isn't very realistic... not that I would know...
