Whilst I have no problem playing female protagonists if game requires it, I do prefer to have the protagonist be as similar to me as possible so I can relate to him easier.

So given the choice, I'd rather play dark haired males, average built (im not a stick, but nor am I a hercules xP). Regarding viewing butt, since I view the character I play as "me" I dont pay attention to such things, im focused on what is in front of my character.

Not an mmo player I might add.

I don't mind if the game's character is male/female to begin with. It's more whan I'm given the choice I tend to steer towards my own gender. It took a long while to finally play as a woman in Fallout 3, dunno why, I guess I felt a little guilty, like if someone watched me do it they'd say "What you playing as a girl for? you weirdo" I dunno, maybe its peer pressure, hell if I know.

None of the above. I do not like to play as a girl because I am not a girl, so my in game self cannot be a girl either. It is important to remember that the character on screen is me, not Freeman, Mario or who ever else.

Not really, I play the game for the game it doesn't really matter what my main character looks like as long as it doesn't directly affect how the storyline goes, then I'll complete the game twice to see the different dialogue.

I played Mass Effect 1 through as Lady Sheppard because I asked my wife (then girlfriend) if I should play as a guy or a girl.

She said girl.

The adventures of Lady Sheppard continued in ME2.

For the most part, I pick gender based on the role of the character. I think females should play lighter, lithe, or smarter characters, like rogues, or priests, magicians, etc. Whereas I put men in the roles of the warriors, soldiers.

Am I really gender biased if I have just as many female characters as male characters on my WoW account?

No. Because I actually treat animated characters as animated characters and not as pixelated extensions of my subconsciousness (like most people fear they really are).

They have their lives, I have mine. It just happens that my input determines their lives to a degree - that's all there is to it. And girls are just as interesting as guys in that respect.

I have no issues with playing a woman but I will usually play as a male if given the option.

I don't mind at all in games in which you are supposedly viewing the world through the character's eyes; games need to be played and enjoyed on their own terms.

But in games like MMOs in which the character is a representation of yourself, I wouldn't think to play as a female.

It also bothers me a great deal when the protagonist is female only for the sake of offering creepy amounts of fanservice, such as in Bayonetta, but that's not a gender issue so much as it is just taking umbrage with having my intelligence insulted.

In games throughout the years, RPGs especially, I've used both genders just about equally. I think the game I caught the most flak from friends for playing was Okami. Not so much for the gender of the lead, but more for the...floral nature of everything. Not that I cared. Frickin brilliant game, that.

I thought Bayonetta was so campily over the top that the nature of the lead did not bug me one bit. I was too busy laughing at the very ludicrousness of it all.

I am always the woman when giving the option.
In ME2 I just think Jennifer Hale is a much better voice actress...
...but in general I like looking at a woman the whole time I am playing and with player creator I always try to make someone I would want to sleep with.
Dudes are gross and dumb, I dig ladies.
Too bad in Monster Hunter 3/Tri none of the dialog sounds like it fits me.

If there is a love interest choice (eg. Mass Effect) then I will play the guy character first and have him as my main, but if it is a game like Mercenaries 2 or Saints Row 2 I will totally be the girl

Well, I mostly go and enjoy whatever protagonist I'm given, although I tend to choose a male character when in MMOs...

For RPGS, I like playing men because I am a guy, and I try to play a male role initially.

However I will play a girl character if its a good game and requires me to be a chick to unlock all the unlockables/achievements. If it is a game I don't terribly enjoy, I usually don't bother.

I will play whatever characters are the most conducive to my play style, (RE- Not dodging like a ninny) in Arcade beat-em ups and brawlers like Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2. (Iron Fist and Ms Marvel.)

I don't care but if I'm looking at the character's arse then the game is failing to keep my attention so I would stop playing it.
