Wow I totally didn't expect to get this many posts on my topic. I guess sex can get people ahead in forums too. :p. I see alot of people saying yes. And I won't argue with that because honestly you would have to be some sort of media hermit to not think sex sells. I just wanted to see if there were any opposing opinions because I am writing a school paper on the major concerns about sex in the media and that there should be laws implanted, but as long as it sells it will continue to be sold.

I'm amazed at the amount of liars in this thread. "Yes it does, but not for me!" Bullshit. If what you guys were saying was true then sex wouldn't really sell, since so many of you claim to be unswayed by it. You may not be aware of it but it affects you too.

Yes, sex sells, it's the oldest trick in the book. Sometimes it even works on me.
Exactly, why do you think this thread has gotten so many hits?

Sex doesn't sell products for me if they're on the cover or it's all that's associated with the product though. This is because I'd just feel too embarrassed to take it over to the till.

I have one thing to say, or rather show, that speaks for the answer "yes, sex does sell":

It is all around us. Movies, music, tv, video games, entire magazines are devoted to it. If it's media it more than likely to contain it. But does sex really sell? Does Paris Hilton washing a car in a sexy swimming suit really make you want to eat that hamburger? Let me know what you think!
I'm sorry, I thought the thread title was "does sex sell" (gee, I dunno) and not "does an androgynous big-bird simulacrum sell?" Paris Hilton is only sexy, and only to extremely insipid people, because she is such a wealthy, terrible and stupid person. It has nothing to do with her breastless, hipless, assless body or her tiny bird face, which is honestly, probably less attractive than Val Kilmer's.

Today on radio Ferne Cotton was talking about how airbushed mdoels are. As an example of this Radio 1 posted a picture of Ferne with digitally enhacned breasts as proof of this on their website. 5 minutes later they annouce that the website has crashed since so many people visited it on such a short space of time.
Yes Sex sells.

Folks who weighed in here to say "Yes, but not to me" are possibly fooling themselves more than us. :)

Ofcourse! There's a very famous saying that goes like this(and it's pretty simple too): Sex sells! Everybody knows that.

Paris Hilton can put me off anything.
Pretty much that.
Paris Hilton and people like her get the exact opposite of the desired effect when the commercial is played in front of me. Lowering my standards for that product subconsciously because they had to resort to her.

If the game/media sells by sex alone and not with any merits of its own, I won't go near it. Bayonetta at least had some interesting game-play value (though I don't own it myself.) Now if the media actually has merit and sex is used to promote it or is present in the media than I have no problem with it (unless in poor taste.)

Sex sells sex toys... and many other things, apparently. If sex had nothing to do with gaming, then nobody would have spent the time to download that game. Ebony, I think it is called. Plus, many people only see certain movies because it has a certain sexy actress/actor in it.

I hate the fact that sex makes games sell, which means that games can make a top 10 list or whatnot on "B00BS" alone, which a good game does not make.

Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 moreso did this well, for the fact you see all of 3 seconds of ass and 5 seconds of side boob if you went the Liara path, and the worst i know from ME2 is Kelly dancing, which is kinda weird for a love intrest if you ask me, but whatever.
