Sex doesn't sell, but it does make you pay attention. Sometimes, it makes you pay attention to something you want to get, but weren't planning on paying attention to, so you weren't going to know you wanted it. Really, that quick little glance from something in the corner of your eye is all some advertisers need, and what does that better than sex?

Others have said it but I'll repeat it. Sex may not in itself sell but most people are far more likely to pay attention to someone attractive than they are to someone who isn't.

That being said, for me personally how it's presented goes along way towards what effect it will have on me. I remember a Burger King Commercial that featured Kim Kardashian (whom I think i beautiful) rolling around on a bed and seductively eating a salad while cream dripped down her chin. That commercial made me want to throw my TV out the window. I can't stand blatant manipulation.

It certainly hasn't worked for me.

I don't know about others though.

But in my opinion, people who buy stuff because of sex appeal, like buying Bayonetta because she is hot, are weak minded.
Personally I think Bayonetta looks like a rule 34'd Sarah Palin.

Yes...tits do sell stuff.
There is really only one thing that attracted me to The Saboteur, because the gameplay and reviews were horrid...

depends on what you're selling for me. And it's tough to find something where it's appropriate

This is a really interesting question. Personally I have to go with "Sometimes", because let's be honest here, as soon as sex enters the picture you want to see it simply because you're are curious.

Well, at least this is what happens most of the time... but not always. A perfect example of when the use of sex, nudity and violence completely backfired was during when EA was trying to promote Dragon Age. I love BioWare games, hell they are easily one of my favorite developers, but after seeing all of those "sex & drugs n' rock n' roll"-styled commercials with Marlyn Manson it really made me less excited to play the game (...and bear in mind I had been looking forward to playing that game for years).

So in short, it really depends on what it is that you are promoting. If it's a hamburger, sure I'll probably look at it a little extra simply 'cause there's a half-naked chick on the poster (though if it's a naked Paris Hilton I'll have to gouge my eyes out with a fork afterwards) however if it's for a movie, a game or anything else for that matter that they want me to take seriously... don't do it. Seriously, just don't.

It usually makes the product look sleazy and undesirable. Evony is of course the go-to example for this.

If that were true, than we would all have become Vegans by now. I am of course referring to PETA showing of naked ladies with un-clever slogans.
