I'm pretty sure gay is when you like men, not when you like getting your nails polished.
It's all about social constructs anyway.

Pink toenails = Instagay?

Isn't that a matter of opinion? One of my close friends is a manly-man engineer who's favourite colour is purple. Some people consider purple a 'girl' colour, does this mean he's gender confused?

It's not controversial in the slightest. So what if the kid likes his toenails to be pink? Hell, I have nipple-piercings and a lot of people consider that rather gay. It's a personal choice. Is it such a bad thing to make genders a little blurrier anyway?

I don't see why this is controversial. I painted my nails as a young lad aswell.

It's probably controversial because "No straight male wants their toenails painted and homosexuality is wrong" or something.

My, GOD! She's wearing her hair in a bun... Yeah I'd say that's pretty damn controversial.

it's uh... a strange picture to say the least. I don't find it offensive, although that mom'll have explaining to do when he finds this picture at an older age, lol.
hello, embarrassing 12th birthday party! XD

edit: what bothers me is how everyone sees cross-dressing being synonymous with homosexuality. I mean I doubt every guy to slap on a dress has gone "you know what I fancy now? A cock!"

Shit for all I know the kid is a girl.

And who cares, he's 5, nobody has a sexual identity at that age.
Interestingly, thats not exactly right.

I didn't read the whole wikipedia article, but I did read the book that went over the case study. Long story short, a boy was re-assigned surgically as a girl after a circumcision accident. The parents raised him as a girl, never told him about the surgery, and generally made every enviornmental factor indicate, "Girl". He gravitated towards boyish things, generally acted like a boy, and felt that there was something severely wrong with him. When he eventually found out he was originally a boy, he said that it made perfect sense, and lived as a man.

But in regards to this ad, yeah, an instance of pink toenails is absolutely nothing to worry about, and calling this an issue of any extent is silly.

Isn't that a girl anyway? Well, the social norms and whatnot are defined by the media anyway so I am not sure what people are bitching about.

That's what I thought too. Then I thought "wait, all toddlers and mothers do that".

The kid is five. In terms of painted nails, he's just trying to have fun and be like his mom (which shows that she is a good parent because he looks up to her). Gender-confusion my ass.

Not really. So what if the kid is having his nails painted, he is five. I would be like seeing a kid wearing a pink shirt at that age.
