the point is that the kid was playing anyways so... no there's no point if the rating is only going to be respected by a 20% of the gaming selling stores...
and you always got a friend or someone who can buy it for you.
anyways the ESRB is only a way for game makers not to get bitten in the ass for putting a semi-nude chick in a game to sell a little more.

Well I hate to say, you'd be surprised at the power of suggestion. Though no, its not the fault of games its the product of poor upbringing and bad parenting. The fact remains that it is a matter of liability, not your own individual likelihood to go on a GTA-induced killing spree.

You may see it as punishment, but really we all had to suffer those years. Think of it as a right of gaming passage when you get to say to those 8-year olds online, "Does your babysitter know you're playing this?" (I love saying it to annoy high-pitched kids)

I think full frontal nudity in a game wouldent be nearly as bad as manhunt. If they are going to rate games, at least make sence.

But see, its not. Because no one is going to take the blame for being a failure of a parent. They're going to pick the most convenient scapegoat and blame that instead.

i agree with you on that point. I am commenting on the way it should be. I have known since the begining it is impractical.

I personally don't know what you are going throw, because i live in south America and all the games that we buy are pirate, so they let a 5 year old boy buy manhunt or whatever he likes...
but i think this is ridiculous, if a kid bought a game that wasn't for his age rate, i don't see the f***** problem, you switch on tv and see people dancing semi-naked at 5 o'clock and if you watch the news, well let's just say you get the same experience as watching some of the manhunt 2 killing scenes

The rating system for games is more or less analogous to that of movies--how movies have been rated for a loooong time. It's not just random and arbitrary and its not likely to change no matter how much you hate it.

ADD is not an excuse for bad behavior.
P.S. I don't think that playing a videogame will make you outrageously violent and start killing cats

What is more dangerous, decapitation or sex. I think Decapitation wins all the way.

The problem is that corporation decides the age rate, then enforces it.

Videogames will make me violent or crazy as much as eating a single bigmac will make me fat, it might help a little, yet i will already have to be pushed right to the edge for it to matter.

would you rather a corperation with money in mind decide the ratings...
or some activist "Mothers Against Gaming" with "ruining your life" in mind do it.

The ESRB is and has been in continuation for one interest group only. That group being the ESRB. It is not a body that functions for any practical cause relative to societies current demands for moral standards. It exist solely for the perpetuation of itself and the continued deepening of the pockets of it's employee's. No rating issued is ever truly enforced in the means of corporate policy nor will it ever be so long as underage buyers have access to sympathetic being of "Higher Maturity".

We all know that the rating system is c*** so the solution is, don't respect it, find a shop where they don't care.
