Gritty medieval settings just turn me away from the game.

And from what I hear, the last game was way too drawn out and it appears this is no different.
I remember when RPGs averaged 50-60 hours.

Now 30 hours is considered "long".

PFFFFFFFFT.

You kids and your short games.
Sorry that I want my stories not to drag on and on to bore the reader.
It wasn't boring at all.
Each individual scenario had a pretty interesting story, and it all comes together in the end and does so nicely.

Nope.

Wasn't keen on Dragon Age: Origins. As much as I wanted to enjoy it, I just couldn't. Not entirely sure why. I love Mass Effect and the KoTOR series, which had similarities.

Dragon Age 2 doesn't look set to change my opinion on the matter either, which is a shame. It does seem to be dumbed down a bit, though.
Mabye you just like sci-fi over fantasy ?
No, I was afraid my comment would look like that. I'd say I actually prefer most fantasy over sci-fi, but Dragon Age just never gripped me. Not sure why. From a gameplay/visuals standpoint, it seemed dated, and the story didn't dig it's teeth in, the whole Darkspawn, Archdemon, Gray Warden thing. Just felt kinda cheesy, I suppose.

As long as it isn't as HERP DERP simpleas Mass Effect 2 was, I should be fine...

But yeah, Bioware is appealing to a more mass market audience now.
Yeah. I enjoyed ME2, but damn it was dumbed down and linear. ME1 was far superior, as was KoTOR 1 & 2.

I'll be getting it for the very same reason you'll probably like it less.

It looks much more streamlined, accessible and stuff.

Since each section of the game's main quest had a self-contained story, as Bioware often does, to a sometimes annoying degree...It's generally never complained about. Actually, yours was the first post to have mentioned that it was "drawn out". I've heard people say it was "too long", but that doesn't equate with "drawn out". "Drawn out" is stuff like Alone in the Dark pulled. OH! YOU SUDDENLY HAVE TO GO AROUND AND BURN ALL THESE ROOTS!

Unsure, but probably no. First one was horrible. I'll probably try to demo and wait until I see some actual footage/gameplay (unlike that false advertising bullshit of the first) before I buy, then I'll probably wait for a Steam sale even. Sadly, the thing that makes me most interested is the code I have for the Dead Space armor in it...

I think locking the race to human is a drawback, but I don't care since they did it because it is specific story about a human.

I don't understand the hate I see for the dialogue wheel. I jumped for joy when they said they would be imputing the Mass Effect dialogue wheel.

The wheel keeps the game flowing regularly.

With the wheel in Mass Effect, I was able to go through 30 hours(about a third of the game) in a week and really get into and like the story.

With Dragon Age, in month I only have about 15 hours clocked in and I only just got done with Lothering and done a few small quests in Denerim. I just can't get into it very well, because having to stop for five minutes to decide whether an answer to a conversation is good or bad is immersion breaking. If the game had the Mass Effect dialog wheel, I would probably have 10 times or more things completed in the game.

Long live the dialog wheel!!

Always smart...if it does leave you vulnerable to anticipation and spoilers.

And I planned on doing something similar for Costume Quest on PS3...

Guess what? I gave in. And 4 days later...it was on sale!

So...stuck with it if you wait for the sale. Or you might regret it.

I'll be getting it soon enough. Liked the first DA, and I'm not really opposed to what I've seen of the second one. I'm kinda really hard-pressed for cash until the next month, though, so I hope the preorder goodies will still be available in march before it launches.

And another thing I'm hoping for is that they'd just release the damn demo already.

I'm gonna like it MORE because of it. Streamlining alone isn't bad...Would anyone here really say that Oblivion should have kept the invisible dice rolls from Morrowind, instead of proper hit detection? No, the complaints are generally on other aspects of Oblivion's combat. It was the gross over-simplification and removal of many aspects that many, me included, found so annoying in Mass Effect 2.

Trim the fat, Bioware. Don't just leave us with the bones.

Got the Signiture edition preordered and I'm replaying Origins as I type, not sure about the more streamlined Mass Effect like direction their taking it in but I'm sure it'll be good regardless.

I really, really liked Dragon Age: Origins. But I like the idea of most of the new things they're adding in to the second one. I'd much rather have the dialogue wheel and actually have my character speak, but I'm not so sure about all this new combat stuff. If combat's more responsive and fun to play/watch, I'll be happy. But I don't want it all "dumbed down."

The only massive problem I have with the game is that the large majority of the game is spent in Kirkwall and you rarely leave the city. Other than that, the game looks great.

If BioWare RPGs are only 50 to 60 hours, than the person playing them isn't doing it thoroughly. I'm only about a third of the way through Mass Effect and my game is at 30 hours played.

I'm going do my best to complete all of Dragon Age(Got the Ultimate edition with all DLC last month) before 2 comes out. But with what I've completed in 15 hours, I can see it will probably take me 250+ for the first play through. That is why I am glad that 2 will have the dialog wheel, because the dialog answer choice set up is why Dragon Age will take so long for me. If it had a dialog wheel, it would remove at least 70 hours of sitting and deciding what to choose from that 250+.

I'd argue that what they trimmed in ME2 didn't just leave it barebones.

But I did that already.

So, yeah, cool then. I don't really care for any aspects of BioWare games other than the dialogue.
