From what I remember, everyone dreams every night, but you only remember your dream if you wake up in the middle. Brains are adept at forgetting dreams so you don't mix them up with reality, and if your dream ends before you fall asleep, you don't think about the dream so you forget it.

Always, and sometimes they're really, really inventive. A few times, I've gone to bed trying to think of a setting for a story I'm writing or something like that, and my dream has created these amazing worlds with the characters I've been abysmally trying to embellish going about their actions as I always imagined they would. When I wake up, it's a desperate rush to find paper and get as much down as possible.

The same happens when it comes to horrifically detailed nightmares, which can sometimes result in me feeling real pain.

Damnable subconscious.
Agreed, my subconscious appears to be far stronger, creatively speaking, than my conscious mind. It appears I also understand the people I know a lot better than I thought I did, as I occasionally dream up what appears to be a semi-normal day, and suffer great confusion the following morning, as everything that has occurred seems perfectly feasible... e.g. I dreamt that my one of my housemates had broken up with his girlfriend and was getting exceptionally drunk to console himself. It took a long moment of thought before I realised I probably shouldn't say anything about how sorry I felt for him in real life.

When I was young I had the same dream every night for about one or two years, which consists of me as an arrow falling "up" into a pyramid-shaped pool of water located in the sky. Every time I reach it though, I resume my "descent" down into the sun at which point I become the famed "Fire Arrow" from many beloved Zelda games. At that point, I usually wake up. Although I clearly remember sometimes being used by a bow to kill a dragon.
The dragon is also pink.
And has golden teeth.

Nowadays though, I dream once or twice a week and I usually remember it strongly. Usually, I dream about stuff that I saw during the day but to which I didn't pay much attention, so it gets stored into my subconscious.

Also, I once had a dream in which I was having a lucid dream. Yea. It got pretty weird around the point where I realized that I had to wake up, twice .

when I dream its usually a re-imagining of my self from other universes (like me in the zombie apocalypse, space traveling age(future), ect.).

Everyone dreams nightly simply because that's how sleep works, so your girlfriend is misinformed.

In answer to your question, I don't usually remember my dreams--only about once every few months will I remember a dream.

My dreams are always really vivid, and I can usually recall them in detail later on. Probably 'cos I've got a really overactive imagination.

A lot of them involve post-apocalyptic or zombie apocalypse scenarios, though. (I suppose this is just because it's on my brain--I'm writing a zombie apocalypse story elsewhere, so I think about it a lot, is all.) But they're never really nightmares, because I'm always kicking ass and taking names with some group of people, and a dude in a cowboy hat (Cowboy Hat Dude follows me everywhere in my dreams, for some bizarre reason).
The idea of recurring characters in my subconscious mind terrifies me. Especially when they introduce themselves. There seems to be a young girl called Charlotte kicking about in my head. Which is odd, since I don't know any 13 year olds called Charlotte. Especially not any with a distinct tendency to... um... "remove" anything they dislike. Messily. Still, at least it's a clear indicator that I'm dreaming!

I sometimes dream, but can go for long periods without having one.

The first dream I remember having was of sitting underneath a table in a café and a huge snake made of electricity came out of the plug socket. Another strange thing was that I remember the socket being one of those two-prong deals, unlike the three-prong interface that is standard, and that those socket holes then became the eyes of the snake as it came out of the wall.

I rarely ever dream (about 1-2 times per month), and usually when I do I remember the stuff when I wake up like something that was happening just before, but then when I think of something else, it's all gone, and I can't even remember what I was dreaming about.

I like Cowboy Hat Dude; he's nice in my dreams. He never talks, and I don't remember what he looks like (other than he has a cowboy hat), but I do recall him being nice and helpful to me in my dreams. A couple nights ago, I dreamt that I was in some kind of wizard school with all these moving platforms, and he showed up to help me jump up on the moving platforms and shoot vampire nuns and demonic children. XD

Huh.. Sounds useful, from a dream perspective. Charlotte, however, simply appears occasionally, breaks a few things, then leaves. Always with the promise that she'll see me soon. Also, her age fluctuates a little, from about 10 to about 20-ish. Oh, and I've met someone that looks like her in real life (with a different name, at least). The response is a series of dreams in which I simply get a smug smile and a mocking laugh. I worry about the subconscious bits of my brain.

That's kind of mysterious and spooky. I wonder where she came from? (This sounds like it could be the beginning of a really interesting story or short film! XD)

Perhaps, or it just means that my mind is far more screwed up than I had any idea it was...

Oh, and there's the added bonus that this fictional construct (hopefully) has far more control over my dreams than I do, despite the fact that I know it's a dream whenever she/it turns up. Like I said, this thing terrifies me. Thankfully it doesn't turn up all that often.

See, like I said, that would make for a really good surreal and/or psychological horror story. Mind if I steal it for the future? XD

Sometimes... not that often. When I do, it is usually something quite vivid and interesting to the point that I remember it throughout the day. I'd say once every 2 weeks or so.

I dream every now and then, and they're always very clear.
Rarely make sense, but very clear.

Writhing masses of maggots that are going to/have hatched into flies that are swarming and controlling people's minds?
Less fun than it sounds.

Knock yourself out. As far as I can make sense of it though, it's a fairly dull story/worryingly indicative that I may actually be crazy

Background story - I met her/it at a dream garden party, at which all the other guests were close friends of mine. I was a little confused when someone I didn't know seemed to be there. Then she introduced herself, and I thought nothing of it. The second time I ran into her in a dream confused me a little, but I assumed that my brain was vaguely capable of maintaining a consistent narrative, so it didn't worry me too much. Then I kept seeing it. I can only assume she/it is a random facet of my personality I usually suppress. Seeing someone in real life with a similar appearance was a little weird though...

However, if such a story were to be used, I suspect it could be made more interesting. I'm hypothesising here as to what it could be; doesn't mean that I'm right...

EDIT: By 'hopefully' in the previous post, what I mean is that I hope it's a fictional construct. Minor insanity seems safer than any alternative
