Or is it taught like kickboxing, where the lesson is the workout?
This, an hour and a half of standing jumps, kicks, punches, drills and sparring gives your entire body a kick to the groin.

Incidentally, I recently learned how to kick someone in the groin... stylishly.

I know how you feel, being my previous weedy gamer self I nearly puked first time. Although eating dinner half an hour before didn't help.

You still a 1st belt, or have your life-h4x developed beyond that? :D

I run at least two miles almost every day (busy schedual so I can't always).
I'm gonna be in cross country next year so that number will soon go up.

And I do at least 25 push-ups (press-ups) every night before bed.

If you saw me you would probably think I have no muscle as I'm more toned than built.

But I actually nearly have a six pack. (In bad lighting it's four, decent lighting the last two are somewhat defined, and in good lighting six)

I'm 16 and used to be in Tae Kwon Doe for a couple years, I was actually I belt away from black-belt, but I got a job (grocery store, bag groceries and carry them out for people, make small talk, unload trucks, stock shelves), but my point about that is that in any given day I walk miles upon miles carrying sometimes heavy loads.

I work out everyday. I run about four or more miles, but I can't do a push up... at all.

Oh, i'm only about 3 lessons into it. I really did mean 'recently'. I swim for kilometers at a time, and can ride for hours, but there's something utterly brutal about the martial arts muscle group(s) (all of them). My arms and legs aren't doing too badly, given the swimming and riding, but I was proud of my cardio before that first lesson (I felt I would die) and my gut has never been in more pain.

I love it, it feels so awesome I signed up for six months.

'Aint that the truth. Apparently I was sane enough to be signed up for the adult class. As a skinny, underdeveloped 14 year-old, it was brutal. But hey! Now I can pull crazy moves, yo!

It's different to working out, I think that when you work out you don't really work out, as you'll say, "Yeah, that's enough." However, when someone else is telling you what to do, it's a whole different world of pain. I guess this is what personal trainers do, right?

I would've thought it the opposite, when it comes to muscle groups, isn't riding really tough on your core?

I love it, it feels so awesome I signed up for six months.
Planning to enter any competitions with it?

No. You drop and give me fifty.
In one go?
(I did once)
For my blackbelt grading I have to... twice, with a break for sit-ups in the middle. It's going to be hell.
Friend of mine did his Black Belt grading last month.

Yuu're gonna be kicked in sooooo many places soooo many times by sooooo many people.
THe worst is the group-on-one sparring. That gives me nightmares...

I haven't been to the gym in about 2 yrs but at the same time I keep myself in check with rugby in the winter, cricket in the Summer and mountain biking all year round. As far as I'm concerned the training sessions are just as good as gym work.

So I suppose, to answer your OP, not at all; I don't do sit-ups at home or anything of the sort - it's the actual sport that keeps me strong, fit, etc.

Your back and sides, yeah, but for some reason Karate does something nasty to my abs, which may be because they don't exist. More painful is the stretching, which is learning me something fearsome about how damn inflexible I am. I'm upping my ride to every day just so I can get warm enough to so some serious stretches every night along with some stance/block practice, i'll need to buy/make a target to practice strikes. And yes, I've vowed to myself to never complain in a lesson, so enduring the instructions of the Sensei while my body wants to die is a whole new world of mental torture.

Depends, I did this for flexibility more than skill, but it's turning out to be fun as all hell, so I might end up trying my hand at some competition. The place I go to is big on sparring and partnered training (the human body imitates the human body really well for training purposes), so I may find it becoming an addiction over time.

Also, i'm remembering why I hate situps. Pushups, not so much of a problem. Situps? Ugh, I forgot that hard work is hard work.

On topic, I know a chap who lifts weights while he plays WoW. I can't figure out if this is awesome or double awesome.

I used to lift weights and I used to study poekoelan (Indonesian kung fu). My joints are really messed up, though, so in the end, it wasn't the gym membership or lesson fees that made them too expensive, it was the chiropractor bills.

I need to pick up some kind of healthy activity, I have nothing.

My friend goes walking & climbing but he does those irregularly so I don't see much point in joining.
I do intend to find something however.

I usually just end up getting exercise in for the day by accident. I walk everywhere and by the end of the day, I realize that I've just walked about 5 miles. Or I just do stuff that I find fun, like biking or rock climbing. I dont look at it as a workout, I just think its fun.

But as far as a preplanned workout regimen, no, I don't have one.

It really annoys me when I see some of the higher belts in my classes not doing the whole work out properly or completely. I mean, come on! Everyone in our school is a black belt or more except for me and 3 other people. WE should be getting the breaks!

Only six months into my TaeKwonDo lessons I achieved a national title, so you, being Ultra, should have no problem!

We do situps, and also crunches, and these things called rockers. Lie on your back, cross your arms over your chest, stick your legs up vertically, and then alternate between that position and sitting up straight.

Murder.

Actually, it's not so much that, it's just the lack of pause between the different exercises, I find.

I USED to be able to do 100 sit ups... those days are long past.

I keep trying to get back into working out regularly, but something always seems to happen (I either get injured, something comes up or I get ill.)

Sods law seems to come into effect whenever I try to get into shape.
