Just to save myself a few responses, yes I know loads of people are going to go buy it and that's how the games industry works, jeez.

Why the hell is there a Duke Nukem game coming out in this day and age? Duke is a like a cool stoner friend that you had way back when, as a teenager. You go away, stop speaking and when you did some growing up, got a job and you bump into him and its really awkward.

You know what, I'll put it out there and admit that I actually played through two Duke Nukem games on the PS1, and they weren't that funny then, and its going to be...controversial at best today. I'm not saying that this game shouldn't be made, because there are some people who are curious about it, or that loved the old games, hell - most of the people who play this game will probably be 16 year old teens, who shouldn't be playing anyway.

I just want to go on the record and say "I really don't care if someone under the age restriction plays or watches something they shouldn't" - for the most part anyway.

My biggest problem with this game is that it undoes everything that the games industry, those hard working individuals and teams behind some truly amazing work. Games like the Uncharted series, Heavy Rain (I know not fantastic gameplay, but stay with me here) and Mass Effect. Games that moved away from just being "childrens toys". Developers that thought outside the box, giving the player something that can enrich their experience. These games demonstrate that you can have movie quality like content within a game and take it further, make it unique and it'll last a lot longer than a film. You watch a film thats an hour and a half, two hours for a longer film, 9if you watch Lord of the Rings, but a short game game could last you up to 20 hours. I've gone off topic---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Right, Duke Nukem. Whenever I talk about it, my friends all say, "I remember how fun it was" and I think, well, it was fun...but I was young and stupid back then. I thought Akhmed the puppet was funny back then. Then I grew up and I thought - wow...this really shouldn't be sold mainstream, or even at all. I know theres a market for it, but how many law suits do you think are going to come out of this game "having a laugh" is going to cause? Everyone with their brand stamped on this are walking a tight rope about this - if its as bad as it could be, then bankruptcy is not a far fetched idea.

I suppose 2K didnt help themselves out when they decided to release this the same year as Mortal Kombat. Now if you look at how far the industry has come as a whole and then how far back into immaturity we've gone this year...yeah...not good is it?

Judge for yourself anyway, I've got to play it to review, but I'm not looking forward to that one. Wow...boobs. Yeah smack that butt. BFG! C'mon, just go watch porn and then play some TF2. Same damn result.

Still not decided.

However, if I do buy it it'll be because there's nothing genuinely interesting coming out.

At the end of the day, unabashedly and intentionally stupid and juvenile is still stupid and juvenile.

The people have spoken: They want more Duke. The developers are more than happy to supply, provided they get a little something something for their trouble.

Dude, every medium does this, take movies for example, after the evolution of action movies becoming more about stories than action like The Dark Knight or the Bourne movies, we also had movies like The Expendables and Drive Angry which they are just mindless fun movies, and after years of developing the famle protagonist in movies we have a movie like Sucker Punch which is basically a 12 years old anime fan fiction about attractive ladies.

I loved Duke Nukem 3D as a kid, it was funny and when you're like 13 years old the boobies are an added bonus (yes even badly pixalated ones).
The new one though, i think i'll wait and see what the final product is like before i decide if i want it or not. It could be a grate game that captures and improves upon all the things that were good about the first game. Or it could be a huge cash in. All i know is that i wont be getting it on launch day. I'm going to sit right here on this fence for a while...it's quite comfortable here actually.

I think people will buy it because, well, it's Duke Nukem, realize it's an old game, with an outdated game concept and outdated game engine, smirk for a bit at the crude humour in the game, then put the game away and forget about Duke Nukem. It was fun while it lasted, right? If DNF had been released by 3D Realms back in the 90s as planned, we'd already have forgotten about it. It's just 3D Realm's incompetence which has kept it alive for so long.

The King is dead, long live the King :)

I'm not getting it unless it dispenses cake and a beautiful lady at every cut-scene and cures at least one form of cancer.

I think there's a very discernible between "the game industry" and "the FPS genre." Arcade shooters, well, we need them. Let's put it that way. They're the only thing the fratheads will get a kick out of that isn't Call of Duty and when developers like Gearbox put their heart and soul into making a game that is genuinely fun they need to be applauded for it.

Also, I think there's a difference between "grown-up, mature games" and "games for grown-ups," Duke Nukem is a a game for adults and it's just aiming to be as stupidly fun as it possibly can be. That's a damn admirable quality that's lacking from the modern FPS scene in so many ways and I don't think I'm the only one who thinks shooters need to get back to their roots. It's nostalgic in many ways, but also just sort of the only way the genre can truly work - by being fun. Otherwise, the only logical evolution is a game so realistic it basically makes you wince whenever you shoot someone in the kneecaps. The Euphoria engine is halfway there to making that a reality - I fear those days.

Mature games, and adult-oriented "fun" games, can - and should - exist side-by-side. I mean, most truly mature games are more or less okay for children (examples include, say, Braid, Portal, Machinarium). Duke is for adults and is all about bringing the balls-to-the-wall, over-the-top fun back to the waning FPS scene - like what Bulletstorm completely failed to do, more or less - and we need that back in gaming. It's no steps back, if you think it's a step backwards (as if the golden age of shooters was some kind of black past we're trying to escape from), you're a moron. Adults deserve adult entertainment with an air of light-heartedness, and I, for one, can't wait for Duke Nukem Forever.

This is a reason why I WILL buy Duke...because we have too many games these days which are so in depth or realistic and no I don't have a problem with them, I enjoy them but what I'm saying is that Duke is more going back to basic principles. If it moves shoot it and make it fun. This simplicity is how games started out and I feel that we should have more of such games that just don't take themselves so seriously.

I've never owned a game quite like DNF, (even BulletStorm pales in comparison) so I may as well buy a game that represents everything I stand for.

I'm going to buy it, yes.
For nothing else than nostalgia. It's a game I've wanted since it was announced so many years ago. And that's it, it's all the reason I need.

urrgh, I'm not interested but I suppose I can sort of see why someone might be if they had played the originals (I haven't). Then, I might get it if it turns out to be a good source of runny-shooty-actiony fun, like painkiller (or if Yahtzee's review turns out more prophetic than once thought)
