Headphones all the way, comfier, better quality if you're willing to pay some more, and not inconvenient at all, well at least for me I just sling them round my neck all day, don't even notice they are there most of the time.

My headphones are studio quality and hence will never leave my recording room or game room =p

I just use one of those suction pairs of buds on the move

Depends. If I'm on the go and using my Ipod, then earbuds are easier to carry around and are completely hassle-free. (Has anyone else ever gotten their hair caught in headphones before?)If I'm sitting at home playing a game, then headphones are much more geared toward that. They clamp over my ears and completely immerse me in the game.

^This. Earphones whenever I'm listening to music via phone, headphones if I'm not wanting to share the sound or am Skyping with someone at home and speakers for everything else.

I use headphones and never tried earbuds due to the fact that my ears are quite big along with the shape of my head.

The past few headphones I had gave me ear wounds, because of the frames of my glasses and earmuffs that press tightly on that and my temple.I have yet to found a pair of headphones that would just be comfortable to use for extensive hours of gaming :(

A good pair of either for gods's sakes, since if I have to listen to someone's crappy music because they're using default iPod buds one more time, I WILL garotte them with the cord.

Decency to co-homo-sapiens aside, I prefer buds because headphones make my external ear hurt after a while.

If I had the money then I'd use only headphones, as it is, earphones are cheap and I can get them by the truckload.
This. I'm a cheap bastard

Earbuds since forever. Do they really damage your hearing more? I've been having some concerns about that recently. To rectify the tonal imbalance I tweak and rotate them like an antenna until everything sounds nice :).

I only use my headphones. They are from skullcandy and they work great:

Kind of like this...but a different colour.

well i have the super comfortable earbuds(not those piece of shit ipod ones, god those fucking hurt and are awful) that fit in my hears perfectly and get all squished in there good for good noise cancelling. i listen to the majority of my music on the go and at the gym so i use those the most, however i do have an awesome pair of headphones that i use for pc/360/ps3/etc..

i love em, they definitely set the atmosphere just right.

Again, the fact that those headphones are really good doesn't mean that they've got earbud models that are also very good. You're the second one who seems to suggest that.

And as I've said before, that thing can be as gold plated for all I care, it's still not something you'd put on while busting your ass on the treadmill in the gym.

Earbuds on my MP3, headphones for my computer.

Headphones are just way too uncomfy for when I go to the gym, which is where I use my MP3 the most. Plus they cancel out a lot more noise and when you're on your bike riding alongside a busy road, that's pretty dangerous.

However, I love that same quality when I'm playing games or watching a movie, so I'll use them then.

Headphones, earbuds are pathetic and poorly designed.
My Seinnheiser pair begs to differ.
Indeed.

Eww, in-ear earbuds. I can't stand those. Not only do they hurt my ears, they have the same dangerous quality as headphones; they block a lot of surrounding noise, and honestly I would really like to hear that 3 meter high tractor behind me coming on time when I'm on my bike. So I use these myself:

They're going on strong for over a year now. Who says earbuds break quickly?

For my PC of course I have headphones, a relatively cheap Trust headset that still produces very clear voice-chat and orgasmic sound.

Always, always, always earphones. I find Earbuds too be to uncomfortable, and I don't have an MP3 player that would make them worth using in the first place.

Headphones when I can, earbuds when space/portability matters. Either way tho', I've used Sony pretty exclusively for several years... my ears are actually very small (the over-ear headsets we wear at work fall off my ears a lot), so I have a hard time finding headphones or earbuds that fit comfortably. So far, the sony buds have been the 'lesser evil' (I've yet to find a truly comfortable pair of earbuds). My Sony headphones are literally the only comfy personal speaker set I've found. (Notable exception- my PS3 bluetooth headset. It only fits if I take the rubber comfort ring off, then the metal ridge cuts into my ear. I wish I had a 360-style headset instead... it's not perfect, but it's a lot better than the bluetooth piece.)
