Earth was created 4.5 mlrd. years ago, aquatic life forms appeared 540 mill years ago, it takes 140 mill years for a tropic forest to grow, a coral reef needs approximately 18 mill years to develop. 200 mill years ago the first humans appeared. One century was enough for us to face our planet with grave danger.
Everyone seems to know what is going on, but, no one seems to do something to change the fact that we are digging our graves. Day by day hundreds sq miles of forests are being cut down, the global temperature is growing 1.6-3.5C every year. So what should be done? I know that a huge percent of people thinks that "Meeeh, I won't be around when the shit's gonna hit the fan".
My thoughts are that most of us will in fact be around. As the causes of this natural catastrophe are not declining but are rather increasing every year.
What do you think should be done?
I think switching to alternative power sources is vital along with huge investments into recycling centers and water purification plants.

weather what should be done is not the issue. the issue is convincing the big companies that they will make more money by makiing enviroment saving stuff,as apossed to destroying thae enviroment, as then everyone is nearly dead, and no one will be buying stuff anymore.

I try to think "Meh it won't affect me" but I always feel a little bit guilty so I usually go for an energy saving option if it's available and isn't crap

Edit: In all fairness if China and America switched to all the energy saving stuff we have in Britain then it would probably be the difference needed but in all fairness most of the energy saving stuff is crap

I am not only referring to climate change, and thanks for your constructive input, I found it rather amusing.

Nope.
They are terribly expensive, and Wind Turbines disrupt wildlife, along with Tidal Power generator screwing up the tides.

Nuclear Power is the way, but only if we can get rid of the waste without dumping it in the sea.

Edit: Oh, and something has to be done about England's abysmal Recycling Process. You can't recycle a ton of things, that they did last year. They are too half-assed about it.

I am not prepared to give a significant investment to an endeavour like this. However, I can still applaud the OP and others like him for continually looking out in the best-interests of us all, and grant some thought to the subject at hand. Like I said, I'm not one to participate a lot in something of this nature, but I 'do' contemplate the little things I can do and change my lifestyle accordingly.

You might not be one of those that will stand with Hoxton in the idea of drastic action or be willing to initiate that action personally, but it would do everyone a world of good (is that an accidental pun?) were they to at least give some serious thought to it. Heck, maybe you could make one of those small or spontaneous adjustments I mentioned. If a majority of people did this, no matter how small, it would be a change - either on the front of actually impacting the climate on an infintismal level or simply on awareness. Go on, you owe it to yourself if not everyone else.

Nuclear fusion plants might be the answer. If only the implementation was a bit more practical than it currently is.

Hmm... the only way I can see of saving the planet is to kill off every person. How's that idea?

Nuclear Power accounts for 19% of the UK's Energy Generation, and that is from about only 10 plants.

But yeah, Fusion would be perfect.

Hey, the poll is symetrical, cool.

Climate change is a natural phenomenon and can't be stopped. End of story.
This too, hell, for all we know it could be an effect of the last ice age wearing off, the atmosphere is less than 1% carbon dioxide, personally if we're getting better weather I'm making the most of it.

Yeah.

And the Earth is cooling, idiots. Although, maybe we should plant some trees. Just make us look nicer.

But no, I will not have this bullshit shoved down my throat. Science has proven we're getting colder, the Earth is not warming.

This is actually one reason I don't give my "elders" the respect they cry out for and complain about not getting. They mess up the ecosystem and expect me to foot the bill.

I'm taking small steps to slow this down, but I won't do anything drastic.

Wrong.

We have made many attempts to control our pollution and manage our resources. The Government isn't just sitting back and ignoring these problems. They're trying to solve them. The problem is that environmental issues are complex, and there is never a clear solution.

If environmental issues were as easy to solve as a lot of people think they are, they wouldn't be a problem.
