What do you think about the Eragon book series. I think its a pretty shitty ripoff of numerous, much better examples of literature, but thats just me. What do you think?

Read the book, and it was indeed a rip-off.

And Dante's Inferno looks like the most original game ever compared to the film.

Give me some examples of what it's a rip-off of, because I read the first 3 Eragon books and i'll probably read the last one...

I feel that they've (tried to) mature(d) alittle with the reader, but then again, I don't like books with crazy mature themes...

It feels injected and not written-in...

I liked the book. Although the story is pretty ripped-off, there are a lot of interesting ideas in the book and he has a good style. The film though, was shite.

It is a ripoff. it's so much of a ripoff that there isn't even any doubt that it wasn't based on original ideas. however, none of the above means that it's a bad book series. it has intriguing and interesting characters, it is very well written and is a very entertaining read.
the movie was shite though

The books are great, with the last one comeing out soon.

I did not find them such a rip off at all, and i wouldent care too much anyway, they are great books.

I really enjoyed them. I couldn't really give a fuck if they've ripped something off or not, this is like that Avatar/Pocahuntus thread again.

Try dismounting that high horse sometime.

Well, I never noticed it was a ripoff of anything, so it's a good childrens book...
It's not even a children's book. If you've noticed, there's a lot of descriptive gore, and plenty of mention of sex.

Personally, I like the series. Sure, you can argue that it follows a similar formula as the original Star Wars trilogy. Then again, so did Final Fantasy XII, and many other stories. That formula is very old and will continue to be used in the future.

The Inheritance series is a well-written piece of good storytelling. Sure, it may have taken from other books before it, but it does a good job for what it is. Besides, nothing you say will have any impact on how many copies the fourth book sells.

I very, very much enjoyed the books. Most people I know who think it sucks only watched the movie, which simplified the plot to the point of looking like a ripoff and was arguably the single greatest disgrace in the history of book-to-movie adaptations. That, or Dune.

I find it amusing that no-onw has succeeded in mentioning anything htat it rips off. So yeah, that theory is bullshit.
It's a good series, even if it's lighthearted for the kiddies. And longwinded at times.
Oh, and if anyone think's it rips of Tolkien in any way, then you can save me the trouble and just imagine someone laughing at you. Enjoyably.

The book is poorly written, the plot is jacked from Star Wars, plot elements are lifted straight from Doctor Who and the Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn trilogy, the characters are two-dimensional and unlikeable, and it's honestly beyond me that anyone genuinely enjoyed reading them.

Plus it only got published because of nepotism :/

It does give me hope, though -- if this poorly written pile of dreck can become a bestseller, there's hope for me yet!

I've read the books, and it's a good read. It might be a ripoff, but it's easily overlooked. I enjoyed them and that's what matters, right?
