No, I try my best not to offend people. If I ever did however, then I would probably apologize, I've never liked offending people (however if it's over something pointless, and they're just overreacting, then I'll ignore them).

I saw a thread where it was like "what do you do on the toilet" and someone was suspended for posting "I read" because it was a "low content post." Do we really need or want to know more than that?
maybe if it was /b/?

Personally I got a warning today:

Warning Details
Post: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/jump/18.220321.7412665
Reason: Low content. Don\'t simply quote a post and add \'/thread\'.

What the mod failed to mention was that it was A) in a thread called "What is '/thread' even supposed to mean?" and B) that it was obviously satirical in nature based upon the context of previous posts and even on posts afterward C) Most of the "quote" was edited I claim that edit as My Content since it completely changed the dynamic of what was originally said. The only reason /quote was necessary was to link someone in on the joke

so I filled out the contact form

Basically I argued that the mod was doing a disservice to the community when they neglect contextual content, and that by removing the ability to parody a troll in a funny and light-hearted manner is a good way to promote trolling. Among other things.

It's hard to respect mods that send you a warning (literally) 8 hours after your post, while they are ignoring contextual content, and not a single comment has been posted since your last. I thought forums were for discussion?

I ask you who are the real problem?
Low content posters? Or mods who troll around in threads that haven't been active in 8 hours?

Edit:

I just thought about this now, I hadn't realized how long the gap between mod warn and post was. What are mods even doing trolling threads from 8 hrs ago? Gtfo, mod active threads please. Those are the ones that need moderation, almost like, you know, what you should be doing with your time as a mod.

/facepalm

Good job for keeping this thread civil though.
You have a strange definition of civility...
[small]Although, I suppose, this thread does contain a comparatively small amount of causticity when accounting for other times in which users have discussed the moderation system.[/small]

OT:

And yet,

But really, there is only one thing I can say with absolute certainty about moderation: there are [a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/jump/18.182717.5446011]two[/a] [a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/jump/18.182717.5448253]sides[/a] to every incident, and I am always disinclined to take a user's version of events at face value.
Considering every other thread I've seen discussing moderation needed a quarantine I consider this a success. People actually seem to be learning from their mistakes. It's amazing! Although some people really need to understand that every time they've incurred mod wrath, it's because they've offended users with their posting habits. I just do the dirty work,

I got a 1 day probation for "low content". I think the post I made was exactly what the thread was asking for. Title was something like "best metal song you have heard this year" SO I posted simply
Slipknot - Psycosocial

It got me probation..... although I do not agree with it, I simply don't care about getting badges on forums.

That's to do with low content. You need to say more than just "lol" - it adds nothing to the thread at all.

OT: I once got put on probation for saying that every Wii/DS game I'd ever played had been "lessons in mediocrity". The probation didn't last between my periods of activity, so all that happened was I was temporarily confused at having a non-existent probation.

Before anyone might get angry over my harsh words, I have repented my sins, and like the Professor Layton game.

Nothing yet. On a side note, within the past couple of weeks I've noticed a lot more people being put on probation and suspension. To be honest, I think that this mod-heavy phase through which the Escapist currently seems to be going is in stark contrast to the usual, friendly demeanour of the site. To me, the crackdown on low content posts and anything to which people might even be remotely offended isn't achieving the desired effect, but what do I know?

Me and another user got warnings for creating a giant quote chain that was way off topic in two different threads. I knew I was going to attract mod wrath, but I did it anyway. But I generally try to follow the rules.

And sometimes a one-word comment is all that is needed. Taken in context it was just fine. I see MANY one or two word answers in threads, especially if the thread topic only really requires such. In fact, when I got the warning, I pasted a link to a 4 page thread full of one word answers (I was digging to find it, but after page 15 I gave up) as an example.
Do you think "lol" is needed on a thread? You can laugh privately, or send a PM to the poster so that they know you found it funny, if that's what you wanted to show.

If the thread topic seems to require one or two word answers, I elaborate on the answer. People understand the reasoning behind the answer then, and then there's no chance of a low content warning. It also promotes discussion once your reasoning is known.

I'd assume most of those people posting one-word answers got a warning as well.

Yup, I got put on probation for trying to be a smart-ass. And then acted like a smart-ass during that probation and got suspended.

They were both deserved though, so I don't really mind.

If you're really upset about it, you could PM Kuliani. He'll probably give you a better explanation of the reason you were put on probation.
How do I do that?

Nope, I never have gotten any form of mod wrath. All my talks with the mods have been positive.

I hope I never get any either. Doubt I will though. I'm usually pretty nice, and I think out what I say before I press "post".

I've never received Mod wrath. I'm working on getting my Neo. I'm jealous of my buddy Marter's Neo :p

I too stop before pressing post and I think about the possibility of someone getting offended by what I wrote.

I try to stay positive when I'm posting and I usually try to stay on topic.

This can indeed be vouched for. The number of times that users have flat-out claimed that the moderators show favoritism or don't do their jobs right/at all, either on posts here or elsewhere, is absolutely staggering. When said person then gets punished for either that action or a different one later, they act like that only proves their point. SO many others think that they could do the mods' job better, but they're the same people I feel would be just as "power-hungry" as they accuse others of being.

Being able to robotically parrot the "low content" defense is an admirable gift. Really, it is.

However, since I think the average cognitive level of the forum members allow them to appreciate the succintness of a one-word answer, or an answer that does not unduly elaborate a point that could have been made in a much shorter fashion, various answer lengths (if contextually appropriate) should be acceptable.

Its ok to take the blinders off.
The succinctness of "lol" on its own is something I always appreciate. I now know that someone using it has a sense of humour and adds to discussions with their infectious mirth, which is a fine substitute for all that droll contributing.

Perhaps then, if nobody got in trouble for pages of one- or two-word contributions, that it was as you said it should be, and was all that was needed. I prefer to post with a little more than just "Superman" though.

Currently on my third probation for a low-content post.

Seriously, that rule should be done away with. It can't be THAT bad to get away with a one-word post every once in a while, can it? Hell, even a single emoticon can convey your opinion perfectly.
