BioWare says upcoming Star Wars MMORPG will include 40 novels-worth of voice scripting [http://www.mcvuk.com/news/37971/Old-Republic-is-BioWares-biggest]

Wikipedia page [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars:_The_Old_Republic]

Star Wars: The Old Republic, is my most anticipated game of 2011, and for numerous reasons. The first(The Sith Lords? A sequel by Obsidion? Blasphemy!) KOTOR game is probably my most cherished game of all time, the universe, plot, characters, sophistication, and sheer brilliance that was present in that game changed the way I viewed gaming as a form of entertainment and a story-telling medium.

The concept of The Old Republic, gives the first impression of a nostalgia filled grindfest in one's mind, but after researching all that will be in that game, I think it will be giving WoW a run for it's money (and review scores).

If BioWare successfully incorporate what made KOTOR great into this project, I am confident that they may forge a masterpiece that will do to games what A New Hope did to film.

But what does the Escapist think? Agree? Disagree? Elaborate.

I'm not precisely excited. I have Blizzard's WoW to keep me going on the MMO front, and I'm already paying for XBL, WoW and VIP On a TF2 server network, I really don't think I can afford another subscription.

They charge per month right? If they do I won't be getting it, as I know I won't be interested in it for too long.

Not wanting to troll against MMOs here but, you can't offer a great plot in something that has to accomodate millions of players. I can see this just being world of warcraft with star wars skins (and seeing gameplay videos that is exactly what it looks like to me).

They could never successfully incorporate everything that made KOTOR great, because what made KOTOR great was that it was a great singleplayer RPG. This is a MMORPG, therefore they must change their formula, if only a bit. Therefore, it can never successfully incorporate everything that made KOTOR great.

Yes, it's nitpicky to point that out, but I'm tired today.

Anyway, I'm hyped as hell. Me and Furb are gonna be n00bing teh pwns all year long!

but isn't that the beauty of subscriptions? when you get board you can just cancel the subscription, not like when you buy a game, and then have spent $60 on something you're only going to play for a month.

Apparently they are incorporating the Mass Effect dialogue system into The Old Republic, and there is going to be around 40 novels of dialogue within, there are 8 classes, so it is safe to assume that each will have around 5 novels worth of dialogue.

Consider this, KOTOR had around 5/6 novels of dialogue, so there is a good chance that each class will have around the same story length as the whole of KOTOR...

...I think that is definitely more than a MMO.

I was and still am very hyped about this, I've watched all the holonet stuff from their site. I even wanted to be a beta tester but I'm under 18 :( But regardless I will own this game and I will (hopefully) love it

Yeah, but I'd only really play it for one month, which isn't really enough time to invest in a MMORPG, not if you want it's full benefit.

I answered number 2 but what i'm really thinking is:

All depends on how fun it is to play. I LOVED the KotoR games, I just hope this mmorpg is just as impressive

I will try it, can't say if I'm excited for it or not, maybe closer to the date.

depends. if it's going to be buy it and play then yes but if it's a monthly subscription then I'm not sure. I don't like paying a subscription to a games as it makes me feel as if I HAVE to play it. but if it's cheap then maybe.

Is there going to be a monthly fee? If so, it gets a middle finger from me.
