Wouldn't being set in England disrupt the Futuristic American 50s style of Fallout?

I find Fallout to be a very American series... yes you could spin a title set in England but I doubt it would have the same charm, it would be too different IMO.

I think if we never get a Fallout game outside of America we won't be missing much.
The technology of the Fallout universe could easily apply anywhere. The game technology is pretty much a mix of current sci-fi ideas, with retro sci-fi ideas. It's the feel of the games that would suffer taking place outside of the US. The nationalistic feel, of the pre-war society, and the look and feel of the current destroyed 50s era decor. The world has always felt like taking the 50s US culture and view of the world and it's future, then dropping a ton of bombs on it.

You would have to remove the entire feel of the game if it was based out side of the US, it just wouldn't be a fallout game in that case.

then what the hell have i been living in for the past few months ??
A house...like most people. Anyway, no it would not work, Fallout games are about cheesy American patriotism. Just the feel of it would completely change if it was in Britain, and honestly I would hate it. And like someone said, there are no vaults in Britain, so they are most likely all dead. People didn't even turn into ghouls until people left the vaults, when the radiation levels were down a decent bit.

EDIT: And as someone said, people are only saying this because they live there. There would be no way this game would be created, and honestly it would suck, mainly because it wouldn't feel like Fallout. And it is technically impossible. Anyway, Britain still has killing floor.

Absolutely.

England is known in cinema as one of the best places to set a horror film. Turning it into an apocalyptic feel wouldn't be much of a stretch.

The thing is, Fallout is a commentary on American life. It would lose meaning if it changed countries. It would, however, be able to tell a different story completely, and maybe shine as a result.

Kind of like how the British and American versions of the Office are different, but both are appealing.

I did say disregarding any canon for now. Plus, how do we know there wasn't an English branch of Vault-tec, or perhaps they had a similar type of shelter?
During the Great War America isolated itself from the rest of the world, also it wasn't exactly on great terms with other countries, Britain included. Vault-Tec was built due to this paranoia, thus it is impossible for a branch to exist there. According to the series' history America was the only one actually remotely prepared for the bombs. Britain is nothing but flat, radiated ground.

This. Isn't the '50s Future America' thing a fundamental part of what makes the Fallout games what they are?

Sure, you could make a post-apoalyptic survival(ish) RPG set anywhere in the world, but it wouldn't really be a Fallout game if it wasn't set in America, would it?

I think Fallout New York would me more likely first.

Surprisingly there is very little to no information on what happened to New York during the war.
Agreed! New York would be pretty cool. Like the Capital Wasteland only many more buildings!

there may well be. it is never stated that Vault-tech is not a multinational corporation. frankly, I'd be surprised if there wasn't an English vault.

as a side note, Allistair Tenpenny was declared to have been born in England, coming to America to seek his fortune.

Fallout: England would be a great oppurtunity to expand on the canon, America being the main focus of fallout so far.

(personally, I want to see a society of ghouls living in the chunnel)

I'm an Aussie, and (as you can tell by my avatar at time of posting) Fallout is one of my favourite series.

I do believe it would work but what about Mexico or Canada. I would love to kill yeti like deathclaws in Canada,Also Mexico would have a new name for deathclaws, Chupacabra!

i think if they could recreat like all of england ingame it would be great. or atleast all of england scaled down a little.

Fallout doesnt automatically mean american. it means a game world after the world went to shit after a nuke tastic war happened. so im sure that england or surrounding europe got nuked a few times and would make a good setting for a game.

Instead of deserts you have cold rainy weather with snow falling in game if you play long enough. instead of dehydration in hardcore mode you have to change your socks to dry ones or your feet rott away :)
In Fallout 3 it is mentioned that the entire world was hit by a never ending heat wave.

This.

Additionally, there would be no supermutants, since the factory or whatever was in California.

Well, Metro 2033 worked in the metro tunnels of Moscow, maybe, with a careful thought and planning, it could work.

Doubtful. The problem with Enlgand is its an Island. And its not very large. Fall out games like a lot of space and well... not openess, but it helps. and Britain, just dont real have that.

I think so if it drew from English history and popular culture like Fallout did for America. Also, add in the humor of a game like Killing Floor and I can definitely see it working!
Or Monty Python.
Which Fallout does already.
Doesn't mean they can't do it again. :3
Or much more often. But not too much, as to avoid becoming obnoxious, or offensive.

One thing I think would be cool is to shrink england down or set it on the south of england and have you the chunnel become a passage to some like hold area in france kinda like new vegas.
