I know I am going to sound dumb asking this, but is hardcore mode just a really high difficulty or does it have other features not available in other modes?

I don't know whether I'm going to play hardcore on my first or second playthrough.

Part of me wants to get properly familar with the game before taking on hardcore.

The other part of me wants my first playthrough to be the "true" playthrough and to be as realistic as possible, so yeah...

Plus with games like this I generally only ever complete ("complete" is such a bad term for an open world game like Fallout, how about "finish the main storyline") with one playthrough and only start a couple other playthroughs. I still have yet to complete the all the storyline quests in Fallout 3. Hmmm... I have to get on that.

From what I know its more of a mode rather than a difficulty level. Its supposed to make things more realistic by bringing into account things like thirst, rest, and weight for ammo (no more runing around with 5,000-some 5.56 rounds). Healing is different, as it happens over time rather than all at once. Perhaps how you damage enemies also changes. I don't know all the details but its going to be similar to "Realism" mode in L4D2.

I'm definitely playing it first time through. There's something I've always liked about Fallout that no other game has ever been able to capture the same way. Just surviving. Struggling to make it day to day, minute to minute in that post-apocalyptia. I loved macro managing my ammo, medkits, weapons, etc. This hardcore mode will make it extremely satisfying when I'm able to sit in front of the credits at the end and say "I did that the way a real person would have had to, no bullshit. That was bad ass."

Also, bullets aren't weightless. So I'm glad that bullet weight is included. Even if it is a stupidly, game breaking amount (like the arrows in Oblivion, GOD!) I am getting it for PC. Mods ftw.

Definitely. And I'm hoping they don't make it too easy to keep up with food and water, like they did with radiation in Fallout 3.

Really? That actually sounds really cool. The concept, if done correctly, could be really interesting and totally re-invent the game. Thanks for the Info Sir.

Honestly, no, I wont be trying it on hardcore. I think the Fallout world is challenging enough (for me anyway) on regular settings. In fact, the only time in recent memory I've tried anything hard was on Mass Effect 2 with insanity mode. I made it about halfway through and gave up.

I'm fairly interested in hardcore mode. I dont usually care for higher difficulties in games because that often translates to me having to fight enemies twice as long because they have twice as much health as they do normally, and thats just tedious bulls***. I really like the way they're going with hardcore mode in this game so I'll likely try it out just to see how it goes. If I don't care for it I'll just go back to playing as I normally do, but I'll still appreciate the effort at least.

Oh hell yes I will play hardcore, I think that sounds like a blast! I am curious to see how survival in the game compares to actual survival in the Nevada desert (home sweet die of thirst home).

Yes, but only on my second or third playthrough. I LOVED Fallout 3, and although it was very easy, I like easy games quite a bit. What others find difficult, I find irritating. On the other hand, Hardcore sounds less like a higher difficulty and more like a completely different game.

It will depend on how difficult the game is overall. If it's like Fallout 3, then I will on the first playthrough. If it's significantly more difficult, then definitely the second playthrough.

I'll give it a shot... don't know if I'll stick with it, though; that'll depend how much I actually like it.

Yes, straight off. I want to put myself in a difficult situation, with little prior knowledge of the game, to see how that affects my role-playing. It gives moral choices far more weight, if there's really something in it for you to be naughty.

Aint gonna play the regular mode at all, its lame. Hardcore, wich should be called "Vanilla" is the way its meant to be played.
