The beauty of Pokemon:
1. It's accessible. Anyone can play it. You could understand nothing about the gameplay or story but still win the game, and that's important for kids. You know, the obvious audience of these games.
2. Even though it's a kid's game, it doesn't feel the need to be shit. A lot of games for kids have awful controls and tons of bugs, because they know kids will run out to buy anything branded with their favourite franchise. Pokemon games are quality, even if they feel like rehashes to anyone who has played the games for over a decade.
3. The game is competitive and full of math and we know how much geeks love pouring over number formulas in their attempts to breed the ultimate beast into existence. Every new game shakes up the metagame and keeps the game competitive, much like buying a new Call of Duty. The basics are the same, but the underlying mechanics attempt to rebalance everything.
So I argue well-paced Pokemon installments are always welcome. Just make sure that the releases are at least far enough apart so I can forget what I just did in the last generation of Pokemon games.
