I say Escapists just take this stupid-ass thread behind the shed. And maybe that phrase, since it's tossed around an awful lot.

Do you really think even a thousand signatures(more than this thread will ever get) would make Nintendo and Game Freak even consider stopping Pokemon?

"Stop the abuse". Really? Nintendo is abusing the franchise by exploring interesting new Pokemon ideas and tweaking the gameplay for more diverse, straegic battles. And STILL keeping it simple and accessible?

How about you listen to what Pokemon is about. It is not a series about plot, and has never been. The Pokemon are no different than they were before, other than the fact that the old anime is better and the art style changed slightly. It is the same game, in the same style, so stop complaining about it, and if you don't like it play something else. Quit being ignorant and use your head.
This is a hypothetical thread i made to get discussion going. i don't think nintendo will ever end it, and this thread won't do jack. I LOVE pokemon, and still play the originals. But, much like a certain blue hedgehog thing, it has just worn out its welcome. Pokemon is about the pokemon, not plot or story, and remember that pokemon is a trading card game. If the characters in a show you love (you pick it) suddenly all began to shift character dramatically, and a dozen new characters came onboard, would you be happy? And pokemon will never have stuff like "gameplay for more diverse, straegic battles". its the same thing, again and again, with some glitter or tweaks, but no change to the core mechanic.

Why end it? If you don't like the new games, don't play them.
Of course there's an ice cube's chance in hell that the series will end any time in the forseeable future.

okay, yes, the designs for pokemon were bound to expire some day, that doesn't mean the series has to end! there's so much more to it than that, the new and exiting gameplay elements, meeting new fictional people and going on another adventure dammit!

and while i'll let slide your sassing of pokemon (mostly because your individual claims are true) dont you dare talk that way about our beloved mario! he's never had a single flaw or rough patch, there is NO reson to end that series!

Not even gonna call you out on your Mario dissing.
This, I don't care if you don't like the new generations some of us do, it's not like they removed your favorite pokemon, they're still there, they haven't done anything awful with the "main" series, the anime was fine but fell apart later on, the "stadium" games were fine if a bit lacking in any real depth, the "colosseum" games were unmitigated pile of crap not worthy of human consumption, & the "ranger" games were ok I guess. It has the same problem as the Yu-gi-oh franchise in which everything related to the franchise aside from the core product sucks, the games are the sacred cows and the golden geese of this franchise, if they did anything I consider questionable I'd just stop buying the games.

i agree with the OP pokemon does need to die... or at least stop fucking making the same kind of games(and i don't mean another racing or puzzle pokemon game) spread some of that innovation sauce on the toast that is pokemon nintendo! why hasnt there been a fucking 3D version of the original games on the TV consoles!?!?! the new ones are not 3D, they are fancy 2D. I want a game like pokemon Colosseum but where the gameplay is the same!!! why cant i catch normal pokemon like in the other games?!@?!?!!?

In Red/Blue/Green/Yellow a Pokemon will take the same damage from a fighting or normal type attack with 50 power as a fire, etc. type with the same. Barring type advantages. Now not only are physical/specal stats split for more varied moves in Pokemon, but a certain move can be physical or special. Two words ; Two types. Now we have abilities and item equips that can change the dynamic of a battle. The battle system may be the same, but there's so much that makes it more fun. The annoying PC system was fixed, you can run instead of walk and other such things. The gamepay was never changed, per se, but they sure as hell did improve it. Why fix what ain't broken when you can nail on some prety wall pixtures or finally build in some pumbing.

Pokemon....ahh a key part of my childhood, but then it was awesome. How many pokemon is there now like five hundred or a billion or something, i stopped counting at 251. Fact is, Nintendo are known for milking the cow dry when it comes to it. Mario, Zelda... Pokemon. So im far from shocked.

As much as I hate Nintendo redoing absolutely every successful game they have ever had I wouldn't want them to end pokemon.

Reason? I have a friend who absolutely loves it and I wouldn't want to see her upset.

video didnt work (stupid laptop) but i hardly need to watch that video because i know exactly what'll be on it, a couple of nerds, ranting about all the fillers, sports games with mario characters faces pasted on and games that nintendo allowed others to make for them (for whatever reason) and then pretended didnt exist (like Legend of Zelda, Wand of Gamalon). there's no need to pin games like those on games like Super Mario World, Paper Mario and Mario Galaxy! you dont hear anyone suggesting we eliminate pokmon because of the Mystery Dungeon series now do you?

No, don't end it. But actually make a new game.

Hear me out:

Rather than adding 8 bajillion pokemon, add about 50. Spend the rest of your time and money on an actually interesting story, improved overworld mechanics, etc.
That.
I "like" pokemon. The setting, the sheer , wild unused potential it got. IMHO it got hhuge potential to make the game world much more coherent and "alive", and make PKs much more than just stats.

/ rant on / But i hate the games, they are immensely boring, repetitive, grind-fest and arbitrarily limited. Plus the setting as shown in the games dont make sense in any way, and NPCs are just lifeless one-liner dummies. BBEGs are brainless clowns with completely suicidal goals. And thats just the tip of it /end rant

It could be great, im sure of it, but are they going to put work into making it better or just keep on milking it?

hell no. I have a ten month waiting list on the use of my chemical sheds, I'm making a killing out of it...

i don't see it ending in the next few centuries at this rate though, its appeal to people seems to be of the enduring cult types, and even though i feel it has got too old and stale I still keep buying the games :S

I like Pokemon, but yes, a new storyline would be excellent. Choose your gameplay style, for example. Suppose I don't WANT to head down and battle gym leaders? Perhaps I'm happy catching and collecting my pokemon? Should I not be rewarded in a similar way and allowed passage through certain areas instead of earning badges?

That would be an awesome addition to the game.

What, is Pokemon suddenly dieing out as a franchise and not selling anymore? Has it suddenly become the rehashed (well, more rehashed than) Sonic games that come out over and over again without any success?

No? Then why the hell would Nintendo kill the franchise if it's still making, like, a bajillion bucks!?!

*Sigh*

Pokemon will never end as long as their are still people watching/playing it...if your a true fan to Pokemon, you will respect that this a show for kids, and not us teens/adults, therefore it should not change just Because you and few other don't like it.

No matter what the hell you try to do, it will take alot for Pokemon to change, think of Pokemon in the real world, in our world Animals are different all over the globe, same with Pokemon, why should they keep it relativity the same when it isn't in the real world? Hell i'd love to see what Pokemon live in Africa, the amount of stuff they could do.

stop Trolling, and respect it for what it is.

By the way, anyone else notice that these hate threads usually have under 100 posts?

or is it just me?

So tired of this thread...

You have an opinion. Awesome. I have one too. It says that not only are many/most of the new pokemon better than previous ones, but I PREFER HAVING A SHITLOAD OF THEM. Ok, you can't remember them all. That's because you don't play it as much as I have. Given the time, I could probably name all 493 so far, and after B and W comes out, those too.

See, the whole fucking IDEA of pokemon was to collect things. You know how to add staying power to that? Add more things to collect. And it's not like all the pokemon boil down to "walk into grass. Walk around grass. Use ball." Some only evolve when traded. Some only evolve when fed certain things. Some can only be obtained once a game in a boss battle. And there's the optional thing where you can get different colored pokemon.

But I guess some people only care about the gameplay. Understandable. I personally don't care much for turn based combat due to the ease of mastering it and chance involved. So how can we make it better? We could always add more abilities- oh wait, that requires more pokemon. In that case more skills, because a group of things you can only recognise from their names is so much better than a group of easily recognisable monsters.

But the funniest thing is this BS you people keep coming up with about how "Mario is the same" or "Twilight Princess=OoT." These series DO add things. Just because you don't pay attention to anything aside from the atmosphere doesn't mean the games suck. Generation 2 added so much to the games I don't feel like listing them, while gen. 3 brought double battles and those contests. 4 gave us online capabilities and day/night changes, and 5 will give us triple battles and seasons.

I get it if you want a better storyline, but going back to my opinion, Platinum had the best story in the series. It wasn't that anticlimactic BS that Emerald was, where you just talked to the fucking pokemon to save the day, or the lack of a threat that Soulsilver had, where the worst that would have happened would have been the enemy team getting new management. In Platinum you fought your way through hordes of enemies, then 2 reoccuring bosses, then the big boss, then one of the most powerful pokemon in the game. If you failed, the entire universe would have been destroyed.

TL; DR: Nostailgia BAD. BAAAAAAAAD.

Also this^

as he said why fix what isn't broken? it has some of the best game play of any hand-held game, possibly even game, they don't change it because they know it works.

a reason they will probably never make a full 3D RPG games out of it, they me find it won't work till a later date.

This thread serves no constructive purpose. If you don't like the new Pokemon, don't buy or play the new games or watch the show. If it no longer floats your boat, don't buy into it. But making threads like this is a waste of your time and everyone else's time and sure isn't going to stop Nintendo from making more Pokemon stuff.

I don't quite see why Nintendo should end the Pokemon series. Yes, the number of Pokemon is starting to get ridiculous. Yes, the games don't really change that much from the ones before them. But the series isn't in the tubes. The games are still fine and they haven't totally whore out the Pokemon IP. The same goes for Mario. I don't see why a series needs to have an expiration date. If the games are still good then why stop? Pokemon isn't being ruined by these new versions coming out.

If you're gonna end an abused and tortured series, we all know who deserves it.

I'll say the same thing I say for Mario, Zelda, Metroid ect. They should stop making it when the stop making amazing games from it. They haven't yet.
