Poll: Farewell Pokemon: A poll to stop the abuse

Nah, I think pokemon is still good. The remakes are really nice for those of us who didn't get a chance to play the older games, (I never got to play Gold, Silver, or Crystal) and the new ones' plots differ enough for me to still want to play them. They all base on some evil organization doing evil things because they're evil, but Team Magma and Team Aqua wanted to expand the land and sea, respectively, while Team Galactic just wanted to TAKE OVER THE UNIVERSEEEEE. Those are pretty different compared to Team Rocket's wanting to do... Whatever it is they wanted to do. I don't remember, me being a young-un and all.
In each set of games, there's a new setting, new towns, new gym leaders... Pretty much the only things that stay the same are the pokemon and the gameplay, and new pokemon come out every so often, plus Black and White are working to fix the same-y gameplay.
I think pokemon still has life in it yet, if not for teens and adults than certainly for children and pre-teens.

Starting a petition calling for the end of the series is not only completely pointless, as Internet petitions based around gaming never work, it's also mind bogglingly selfish. Millions of fans all over the world love Pokemon. Adults who've grown up with the games, kids experiencing the thrill of catching a Pokemon for the first time, and everyone in between. Every new entry in the series is universally praised and, generally, sells like hotcakes.

But no, because a bunch of joyless, tunnel-visioned forum nerds think the series isn't "innovative" enough, the opinions of those millions is suddenly invalid, and the series needs to end. Ridiculous.

Pokemon ended for me a long time ago. And by "ended" I mean, the amount of pokemon. I still fondly remember being a kid and watching it etc, but beyond the first 151 pokemon, I lost interest in the show completly.

Acctualy team plasma in Ishuu is good, they want to stop people catching Pokemon for use in battle, but this is something most Pokemon don't want, so you have to stop them from stopping trainers from catching Pokemon...if that makes sense...

I guess that's a step in the right direction, but it's still the same "stop Team X" deal. I mean, couldn't they find a more creative way to explore this? The whole premise of the game is a lot like dog-fighting when you think about it. Why would any of these animals want to take part in recreational deathmatches for humans that make a sport of poaching them out of the wild? And I don't buy that "THEY DO IT BECAUSE OF FRIENDSHIP" garbage. Seriously, that's garbage. That was fine when we were ten, but the target audience isn't ten anymore.

Pokeymanns was never good in the first place. It was a decent concept (If a little Michale Vick-ish), but the games were sooooooooooo bad.

I think you misunderstand who the target audience of the Pokemon games is supposed to be. There's no denying that the games have universal appeal, but they're pretty clearly targeted at young children.

but they actually have DIFFERENT things in SOME of the franchises. Kinda...maybe...okay not really but at least those don't just make slightly different hats for their creature slaves and call it a new game.

The problem isn't that GameFreak is scraping the bottom of the barrel, per se. The problem is that they're limiting themselves by continuing to pander to five-year olds, which aren't the demographic they should be going for at this point. Admittedly, the game's subtext has been getting increasingly darker, but it's just not enough to please the huge fanbase raised on the originals. If they just made a game with a nice, deep, mature plot, it would be amazing.

So, the solution isn't to end the franchise. The solution is to aim at a new demographic- the now-much-older-and-wiser-fans of the original games.

This thread serves no constructive purpose. If you don't like the new Pokemon, don't buy or play the new games or watch the show. If it no longer floats your boat, don't buy into it. But making threads like this is a waste of your time and everyone else's time and sure isn't going to stop Nintendo from making more Pokemon stuff.

...Or you could just, you know...not play them. If you don't like a series, then just stop paying attention to it and let it continue. That way people who like it can still have fun, and there's always a chance that they'll make another game you'll like. In fact, ending it would just ensure that never happens, so how is that a better choice? Why are you getting hung up over the fact that a game series is still in production if you don't even like it? Don't you have better things to do, like cleaning your ears or something?

This also applies to Sonic. Then again, it looks like Sega is finally getting back on track, so that just proves my point. Tomb Raider would also be a good example. Those games were panned for years, but because they kept making games we got Guardian of Light, which is a critical darling.

I don't know, I think they're definitely running out of pokemon ideas. In the last generation some of them were just animated objects/the majority were, or just repainted other pokemon.

Sonic the hedgehog can saved if sonic team pulls their head out of their ass. Here me out. how about instead of pulling out half assed stories and adding all these characters the focus on quality. Sonic needs to be revamped so give him a story where all the other characters are gone. Hell send him into the future and give him a new team. The only new sonic character in the last 12 years with any potential is blaze. Make the environment sand box like adventure and give age him like Jack from the Jack and daxter games. You know what let eggman win and have his succesor take over about 500 years into the future....

Agreed. It has gone on for too long now, it really is abuse. They don't anything really special with the new games, just pump the same shit out over and over and it's really sad. Also, everyone knows the new Pokemon suck compared to the originals, almost everything about these new games are pathetic.

The TV show is even worse, it's literally soulless crap. I can't believe they can get away with it for so long, there should be study on it to see if it cause brain damage!

When did i say it would upset me? I never said that at all. but their are other ways to say your opinions other than to start a thread which will get people worked up because the thread has been done to death.

Well stop being annoyed. I don't see how it could annoy you unless you hate seeing someone else voice a different opinion than yours. Seriously, that would be the only reasonable answer. Most Escapists are mature enough not to flame each other over something so insignificant. There won't be a flame war, if anyone see's flames then they will put it out with that special red button.

As for the wording, I didn't see anything wrong with it. He's just bashing the new Pokemon a bit and that's perfectly acceptable, your allowed to bash things just not people, because then that would be trolling.

From what I've heard from those with preview builds of Sonic Colors, the story is actually shaping up to be really, really good. (Along with the rest of the game) Or at least, the general writing and new voice acting is.

Have to agree with this. It's Nintendo's product, and as long as it is profitable, they are free to do whatever the fuck they want with it, whether you like what they do or not. Nobody is forcing you to buy every Pokemon game out there.

Why would they? Better yet, why do you care? If millions of people are buying Pokemon, and a small minority think the series should be killed, ask yourself this:

1) What business sense does it make to kill said series?
2) What gives the minority to deny the majority to be able to enjoy said game?

If people are enjoying the game and the company is making money off of it, then there is NO REASON to kill off a series.

no pokemon should not die ever it is a part of nintendo as much as mario is.what I think they should do is lay off the main games and make a new pokemon snap or something and about the new pokemon yes some may look strange (like the ice cream one for example) but we have to think of it as a different world that does not comply with ours.
