I'm still waiting for them to make a super Pokemon MMO, the only real choice you get is what region you start off in. You get a random starter (not even based on the actual starters), legendaries are not obtainable, leveling up is more intense, spending points actually in certain areas instead of it being random. Also, random levels for trainers, and once you get 8 badges (which can be difficult since the levels are random, so gym 1 can have 50s and gm 8 have 10s) you enter the Indigo Plateu, and they have the fights like they did in the show. Prizes are money and special pokemon

You can interact w/ RL trainers or make yourself invisible to them, pokemon appear randomly (except for a few things, you won't find wailmer in the forrest or hoothoots in the ocean, but you could run into a flying pokemon over the water or something like a seel that's come ashore) and it's like a REAL pokemon experience.

If they can spend years upon years and hopefully make a Star Wars MMO, why can't we get Pokemon-Just like the TV shows were:The Game? I'd buy that game over WoW in a heartbeat and I'm currently addicted to WoW :p

No, don't end it. But actually make a new game.

Hear me out:

Rather than adding 8 bajillion pokemon, add about 50. Spend the rest of your time and money on an actually interesting story, improved overworld mechanics, etc.

I don't think they should end it, but they should only make one more game. the one that we've been waiting for... Pokemon the MMO. they have enough Pokemon and regions to do it. also, i would rely like the option to play as an evil person eventually. I'm getting a bit tired of the whole save the world thing. Can i end it, or just be a guy why lives out his Pokemon dreams uninterrupted by the latest iteration of guy's in ugly cloths and bad haircuts.

Wtf? Why? No seriously, why? This isn't some literary masterpiece that we have come to respect and love only to be bastardized by future generations. It's freakin' Pokemon.

I hate people who make this arguement. Seriously.

Because its fairly obvious that you have not played Pokemon since Gold/Silver, and are judging hte new Pokemon based soley on the fact that the new ones arent the old ones...

IF you actually played the game, you would realize each generation adds new mechanics, and betters the game play (both metagame and competitive). Its not the old Rock/Paper/Scizors bs, its gotten a lot more complicated since then.

And the fact that they are constantly making new Pokemon, and finding ways to spark interest with old ones, as well as encouraging new strategies and gameplay styles, I fail to see how they are stagnant.

I mean, for fucks sake. Major mechanic innovations each generation isnt something we ask from ANY of our milked franchises. So when one actually does do it, its considered "milked" just because it has appeal to kids.

Usually I see two sides of a story, but no. In this case, no. If were bitching about innovation in a industry known for its lack of it, then you need to just go play whatever generic first person shooter you think "changed the face of the gaming industry".
THIS. Omg this. I mean, can you give me a more cohesive and thought out argument other than "It's not the same as it was in my childhood and I hate it!" First off, not true; it's changed, just not the way you wanted it. Second, who cares? Kids still LOVE IT, and for every new generation of Pokemon they invent, there is a new generation of kids that fall in love with it. Is it really that you hate where Pokemon is headed, or did you just grow out of it? Geez, I see no reason to this thread...if you got your way, the BEST that would happen is a bunch of kids would be upset because their beloved show/game is gone forever, and a bunch of old farts (hey, that's you!) will rejoice because "Thank God that game is gone! You kids don't understand, in the good old days, it was blah blah blah blah blaaaaahhh." So congrats on making little kids cry.

Firstly, hire a decent designer to actually make some cool looking pokemon again. We haven't had any decent pokemon since arguably Johto (some do not even like these ones).

Secondly, how bout mix it up a little. Instead of the same old hand-held console, mostly 2D, aerial view games that have, while having been given more features, better graphics etc. since red/blue, how about Nintendo make a 3rd person adventure game with an actual decent sized world. turn the battles into something a little more exciting, put some kickass music rather than the insanely annoying jingles that have me always playing pokemon without the sound.

I think if they were to better capture that sense of adventure inherent in the tv show, they could make a really good game.

Dont get me wrong I love most Nintendo franchises its just they seriously need to make new IP its cuz Nintendo keeps reusing characters that everyone else goes with the safe plan and just keep using old IP (im talking to you final fantasy)

We all like to see new things, that's a given. And you need to give credit where credit is due, Pokemon makes the effort to give us new and interesting content. Pokemon's also doing it in a way that works, though not on the surface which is what most people look at when they critique it for not being innovative.

Look at other long running series, not just in games. Things like Comic Book Heroes, Cartoon Characters, Movies, and Books. Any long running, seemingly never ending series employs a drastic turn somewhere in it's lifespan that enrages some corner of it's audience or all of it. They were mistakes that killed the franchise for the older generation or delivered it to a younger generation. No one ever chastises these series for getting stale though, you won't hear people saying Superman needs to end anytime soon.

The connection to Pokemon is this; Pokemon hasn't taken this step, sidestepping some spin-off titles, in it's core series as of yet. The core Pokemon titles have not taken a dramatic turn in a vain attempt to attract a younger audience which would ruin the experience for the rest of us. In a sense they don't even need to seeing how their games are already catering to a wide demographic. What you're saying by saying they should change it or end it is that you think they should take that drastic turn and kill the series by making a crappy game; That doesn't fly for me.

What should be done instead is exactly what they're doing now. Improving gameplay, adding content, and telling a different story each time. I'll agree with some other members, like Calum_M on the first page said:

We don't need 100 more Pokemon, just 75 or 50 well designed creatures to train. We don't need to fight ever more devious organizations, maybe just a few classics with new motives or a true crime situation that can involve less "omg, world's going to end" problems and more "what you're doing is wrong, I should stop you" problems. Things like illegal Pokemon Farming, Slowpoke Tails, or the risky maneuvers involved in hunting legendaries such as a shady professor using your strong Pokemon to help him through a cave only to ditch or trap you there after accomplishing his goal; maybe have him actually steal a Pokemon from you that you have to recover. On that note, less legendaries; we've filled our quota on those guys.

So no, let's not stop nor destroy Pokemon. Let's just do better then the guys at Gamefreak; make our own better Pokemon; then become legends. Who's with me?

From what I have seen, Black and White is not only rejuvenating the franchise, but it may be the best game since the ORIGINALS.

The enemies are
Actually not evil. They have very good intentions: They want to stop Pokemon abuse. Problem is, they think pokemon should be completley free and should be used for nothing more than friendship.

The new mechanics are exactly what were needed and it's a refreshing breath in the games to have to catch ONLY new pokemon, which forces us to get off our Dragonite crutches and actually go catch some pokemon.

I do think they need to take a lot of time with the next one.

That actually sounds pretty nifty for a antagonist, like a PokePeta.

Counteracts the seemingly more industrialized feel of the designs for the game, in both location and Pokemon.

Yeah the pokemon do kinda look odd, but I love the fact that they take away the Dragonite training wheels and force you to catch and play with ONLY the Generation V pokemon until you beat the game.

I'd like to see one big pokemon game. All the regions, all the gyms, one big overarching story, maybe the ability to play with a pal the entire way through. Think it'd be pretty cool if they did that. Maybe even give you the chance to start in whatever region you want.

Not until I get a 3D console version.

It's a huge serious it makes money like a goddamn mint, and people love it. It's not going anywhere anytime soon, suck it up and deal with it.

P.S. Beating + Dead Horse = ???

i have a love/ hate relationship with pokemon

on the one hand i loved how you caught creatures and trained them for combat and how each one felt individual and had a sort of tech tree. you could evolve them, make them more powerful, make hard decisions on skills they would learn and those they would discard. it was complex while being simple at the same time

on the other side, it was pokemon. it had a bad story and a childish demeanor that couldnt be shaken. i would love these games if they didnt have such a stigma to them

pokemon yellow for my gameboy was one of my favorite games and when me and my brother got red and blue we fought against each other all the time but now that there are hundreds of different poekmon it just killed the series. i say remake the original gameboy games with the first 151 and you got yourself a great game

Hm, not really a very balanced poll there....

I agree with those before me who have said (and I summarise): 'so long as the next game actually adds something new *other than 150 more assorted pokemon*, I'm OK with it"

I'll admit that I sort of lost interest for a while when instead of new maps and new characters we just got slightly better graphics and some new kind of berry/apricorn/whatever for the die-hard stat grinders to obsess over. But if they release a game where things are taken in a fresh direction, I might get back into it. I loved Red/Blue and Gold/Silver, and I even enjoyed Ruby/Sapphire to a certain extent, but I would love to see some more depth to the story (I realise it's just about becoming the master and defeating Team Flavouroftheminute, but I think it's definitely possible to build something on top of that) and a new, more expanded world to explore.

As for the TV series, I haven't watched that for quite a few years now, but I do remember having seen a number of the straight-to-video 'movies' that have been released over the last few years and thinking that, actually, they weren't half bad compared to what one instinctively expects when one hears 'Pokemon straight to video movie'.

At the end of the day, I think it's right to expect that we won't just see the same game released with slightly better graphics, but I don't think that the franchise as a whole needs to 'die'. It just needs to...

...evolve! =D

Um... dude? An old fart? I'm 16. yeah. yes i'm a little nostalgic if a 16 year old can be, but thats not the point. It just suck ridiculous balls. the black and white pokemon just look waaaaay to, well, stupid! How many species of animal are there in the world? thousands. hundreds of thousands. and they make a fucking rooster in pants or a grass snake made of plants (clever, huh?) that has leaves for limbs (snake with limbs?). Wtf?
some of the legendaries are just obscenely out of scope for the actual material. This is a freaking trading card game people. it's just about becoming the master and defeating the elite for, and catching an training your pokepals. it shouldn't have to save the damn world, let alone the universe. think yu-gi-oh. pokemon is nearing that
And honestly, what little kid is gonna be DESTROYED by pokemon ending? There's so much pokemon, they won't miss potenial new bullshit, and will not care that it stopped. are you just devastated after you finally beat a really good game like half-life or something? your disappointed that its over but the ride was more then worth it.
Let it end for the sack of how undeserving the new shit is of its popularity

No, they make new games with new pokemon, new stories, new environments, new graphics and the same basic formulae I love.
No thank you. The reason it's so popular is because it's a good game.

Lemme get this out of the way first and foremost.

I don't like Pokemon, never did and never will. I mean the show, the cards, the games, all of it.

That said...

Nintendo has made and continues to make millions on each Pokemon release, more then enough to justify yet another game. The higher ups at Nintendo don't give a flying fuck about Pokemon fans, only that they enjoy the game enough to fork over yet more money when yet another game comes out.

It's the exact same way with Sonic, Mario, so forth and so on. It's simply a way to make them more money.

Cynical? Yes. True? Who knows. I might be right, might be wrong.

So as for your opening quote...

It's time to take Pokemon out behind the shed, put the barrel to it's head, and say goodbye
They already have. They've just stuffed the corpse and hope that people don't look too closely.
