Poll: Favorite Game Genre?

Wasn't quite being serious. I know it's a broad statement, but generally, when I want to leap right into the action, I go for an FPS. When I'm wanting something more drawn out, I go for an RTS, etc.

This is like asking what's better, metal or rap. It's a moot point and completely down to preference and mood.

When I want some bloody action I'll play a FPS or when I want to just wander and explore I'll play an rpg.

Likewise if I want to de-stress I'll jump around to Slayer and if i want to get people to dance at a party I'll put on.. um.... I dunno... eminem lol

Given I already conceded that 'best genre' comes down to personal taste... But whatever. Just figured I might as well hear other peoples opinions.

My favorite is adventure. Probably not the best, considering that we don't get a lot of good games there, but I still love it

Yes, I realize I missed a few. But, I went with what came to my mind first. Some slipped the net.

Again, yes, I know I've left out some of the other major genres. I forgot about them when I was making the poll. Pointing out the fact that I left them out isn't going to get them to magically appear on the poll.

I can't even see how this thread could even work, unless you asked for our favourite.

For example I like everything, so far I don't think there is a genre I don't like.

FPSes are for impatient people who need to blow another living being away, RTSes for more intellectual people, RPGs for people who wish they were someone else, if I were to hazard a guess to their appeal. But still, not going to say which is the best genre. Since 'best genre' varies from person to person.

I'm unsure about the impatient people point with fps. In fact I outright disagree.

Probably would have been best you ask for most favorite rather than best.... because honestly, anyone who dabbles in a little bit of everything will find enjoyment in all these genres.

...But anyway.... I say all are good... but a personal favorite for me is the FPS since they are generally on the fore-front of cutting edge graphics and technology and usually incredibly fun or scary interactive. (I include 3rd person shooter in this as well)

But I still love me a good RPG often, a well balanced RTS, and I admit.... Peggle was fun.

My favourite is RTS, controlling an army you built from scratch is the most fun I have ever had.

All genres have their Pluses, but if i had to really choose, it would definately be the RPG, because it combines a lot of forms, there could be bits of all the other genre in it. it sometimes gives a very well rounded form of play.

honestly, i don't care all that much about the genre, as long as the characters and story are completely enthralling. i care more about emotional experience than game mechanics - though i absolutely cannot play first person anything, unfortunately.
