Both Super Mario Galaxies? Really?

From this list I'd say Metroid Prime, but from my list there's Silent Hill 2, Persona 4, Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Beyond Good and Evil, No More Heroes, my GOD couldn't they come up with anything better? (OoT was a great game though, but there is no way it's the best game of all time.)

Did they pick this list by throwing 10 darts into a EB Games and pick whatever they were stuck in? For me it's between Soul Calibur (so so SO many hours spent on that) and Ocarina of Time for it unrelenting awesomeness! The rest are a shocking pile of trash (GTA 4 II'm looking at YOU!)

...According to GameRankings anyway.

These eight games garnered the best reviews out of any others, but the point is to find out which one gamers appreciate the most. Is there a divide between gamers and critics? I guess that's kinda the point of this poll.

Anyway, I'm not telling you the rankings of each game on the list cause that would skew results. And before someone thinks "Hey, he may just put them on the poll in order!"... they're in alphabetical. Trying my best to avoid affecting the results.

Oh, and feel free to talk about games that you think aren't even deserving of being one of the eight best reviewed games ever (again, according to GameRankings), that's what a comments section is for after all.
And how about none of them? I hate all of them, they have hardly any story ever, and are just for those sad people. Fallout 3, Diablo (1,2 and 3), Mass effect (1 and 2), Baldurs gate, Sims (1, 2 and 3) are all the good games! Best stories, and as the guys from EXTRA CREDITS said, a game should have a good story, narrative and not just writing and good twists which make sense! Oh, and more psychological too!

Ocarina of Time, obviously. From that list, at least. Still, there are a lot of good games that are not on that list. For good reason, I concede. But review scores aren't everything. Drakan: The Ancient Gates on PlayStation 2 is one of the best games I have ever played. It'd never get a 10/10, but that doesn't change the facts. Similarly, Primal on the PS2 is also excellent, and Parasite Eve 2 is a damned fun action-horror-RPG sort of hybrid on the PS1. I hope they release it to PSN.

Ocarina of Time is an awesome game and deserves it's legendary status. For those of you who have never played this gem, do so and see what all the fuss is about.

Can't say I'm an enormous fan of any of those. I enjoyed many of them but just can't pick one out that is supremely better than the rest.

Of the options, Ocarina is the best. Even though Majora's Mask is waaaaaaaaaaaaay better. I don't really know what game I'd actually say is the best... Though going by how often I've played through the story and found it enjoyable every time, I think HL2 is my 'best game ever' choice. But that's so limiting! I mean, I have RPGs I love just as much, and RTS games, and... yeah.

You can have your opinion, but don't diss the fans of these games. That's all I ask. I think Metroid Prime and Uncharted 2 are both really good games actually, though not for story. Are they my favorites? No, but they're still really good.

Umm... where did you get this list? I know Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 [http://apps.metacritic.com/games/platforms/psx/tonyhawkproskater2] scored a 98. Actually, here is a real list of the top 10... errr.... 8 (according to Metacritic):

I'm surprised at just HOW different the lists are. I'm sure they used a different source of critics, but there's still a massive difference between the lists...

To answer your question, yes they can - if they are fun to play and well-made.
So a game can be considered one of the greatest games if all it has to offer is entertainment value? If we judged movies by the same standards, Piranha 3D would be up for an Oscar.

You might not like a genre, but that doesn't make it any less valid.
I love Soul Calibur. I also like porn. Neither are good representations of the ability of their mediums.

Fighting games are not about story or characterization (that would be an RPG trait).

No, story and characterization are a trait inherent in art. Even the Call of Duty games have story and characterization. Fighting games and sports games are the only genres that immediately come to mind that are devoid of the means to present story and characterization in any compelling form.

Fighting games are all about action and reaction against your competitor. I've never experienced more white knuckle moments in a video game than when in a really close and tense battle.
Why does this matter?

Ocarina of time was good, but less good than majora mask.
Metroid prime was the bestest game ever.
Both mario galaxy shouldn't be on the list.
I never played the rest of the list.

Wouldn't fuss over any of them, their all mediocre at best... Best game ever though? I would say Fallout 3 based solely on my experience with it - I know its not the best of the series but I had hundreds of hours of fun with it :p
