Only between those? Well, of them, I've only read H.G. Wells, so I guess him. I'd say David Weber if it didn't have to be one of them, though.

Lovecraft, because he writes about HORRORS TOO TERRIFYING TO IMAGINE, TO LOOK UPON THEM IS TO KNOW MADNESS!

Frank Herbert. He is better than all those 6 combined.(Not really...)Dune is epic. And it's a crime to leave him out.

My favorite Sci Fi author is still Weber, but I do have to give Herbert an honorable mention, I just started God Emperor of Dune, and I'm loving the series.

George Orwell.

He wrote 1984! That's technically sci-fi.

Wait, we can only choose between those?

That makes this thread more boring if you ask me...

I'll say Lovecraft.

I don't find the Star Wars Death Trooper book too bad, so I'll go with the author behind that.

Interesting list.

By interesting list I mean, damn it, where are the options for Philip K Dick, Kurt Vonnegut, Vernor Vinge, Neil Gaiman, Alfred Bester, Olaf Stapledon, Charles Stross and so on.

I tend to read more recent sci-fi authors like Iain M. Banks and Neal Stephenson, so H.G. Wells wins by default due to the amazing Orson Welles radio version of "War of the Worlds."

Plus I love the idea that the killer Martians are defeated by common bacteria.

WTF! Are you serious? Lovecraft is not, and I say absolutly not! Sci-Fi.
All his stories are placed in the 19th century and that is not science fiction. H.P. Lovecraft is Horror. Some authors who were inspired by Loveraft were Sci-Fi authors but not Lovecraft himself. You fail at so many levels!

That's why I voted for Wells, his "War of the Worlds" was just epic.
