So I decided to get on the Skyrim bandwagon and post something about The Elderscrolls that I thought would have some discussion value. These figures are pulled from Oblivion but I believe they were the same in Morrowind and might be the same in Skyrim they aren't in Skyrim.

What is your favourite birthsign overall? For a specific class?

There's not enough options in the polls so some have been arbitarily merged.
Apprentice
Magicka +100 and 100% Weakness to Magicka.

Atronach
Magicka +150 but no Magicka regeneration. Spell Absorption 50%.

Lady
Endurance +10 and Willpower +10.

Lord
Minor power: Restore Health (6 points for 15 secs) and 25% Weakness to fire.

Lover
Major power: Paralyze on touch (10 secs) and lose 120 Fatigue - once a day.

Mage
Magicka +50

Ritual
Restore Health (200 points at once) - once a day.
Turn Undead (100 points for 30 seconds).

Serpent
Cure Poison, Damage Fatigue (100 points on self), Damage Health on touch (3 points for 20 secs), and Dispel (90 points)

Shadow
Invisibility (60 secs) - once a day.

Steed
Speed +20.

Thief
Agility +10, Luck +10, and Speed +10.

Tower
Reflect Damage (5 points for 120 secs), and Open Average Lock daily.

Warrior
Endurance +10, and Strength +10
Personally I love the Atronach, straight out of the gates and you're immune to 50% of magic, it's really easy to build a magic absorbing build with some items that makes you 100%resistant. I use it mainly for pure Warriors as they don't need the magicka. The ritual is tempting though for its emergency heal and defense against the undead (my least favourite enemies).

I personally avoid the attribute enhancing ones, because as awesome as they are they basically disappear once you've gotten to a high level. The thief is the exception for my rogue-like characters, the speed and agility is obviously useful. But the Luck boost is fantastic, its basically ten levels of luck straight from the start and it has all its internal effects that help you without you noticing (crits and loot).

For mages I usually take the Mage, because it's a magicka boost that remains throughout the whole game. The Astronach is useful for High Elves with their elemental weaknesses but lack of regen sucks. The Appentice is decent for Bretons has their 50% resist magick helps offset the weakness. But the mage is great for having no downsides.

I almost always go with The Thief. Since Luck is the slowest Attribute to increase, that +10 to it right off the bat is lovely. I'm also a fan of being fast, so the speed boost is nice as well.

The Steed

Extra speed is almost always useful, and I'm too conservative with the once a day bonuses to put them to good use.

The lover.
Either that or the warrior or some such thing since I have this bad habit of going "AAAAH MOTHERLAND" in combat no matter what class so warriors tend to be my best class ffft.

(On that note it's hilarious to be a DA:O spirit healer and creationist mage with only TWO attack spells so I get killed. a. lot).

Being, as you are in Elder Scrolls games, agonisingly slow, I almost always go for The Steed, regardless of what class I play. I simply cannot stand moving slowly in a game.

However I have, on occasion, gone with The Thief, as not only does it offer a small speed boost of its own, but also increases two other stats as well. It's the only birth-sign that increases 3 different stats, making it one of - if not the - most cost effective.

Early polling actually shows some mixed oppinions, I actually thought it was just going to attributes and magicka. Still seems no one likes the serpent.

All of my characters were either The Thief or The Mage.

Both very useful, though The Mage isn't as useful after you've levelled a few times. Still handy though.

Usually go with either The Thief of The Warrior. Might try something different for once in Skyrim, but I'm bad at experimenting in games. If I find a concept that works I tend to stick to it.

Theif is my favorite. Although ironically anytime I make a thief or assassin, I use the Shadow birthsign.

Thief. I never use birthsign powers, since putting them in your quickselect is a waste of space since you can only use it once per day, and the menus suck. Speaking about Oblivion here of course.
But I think I remember reading that birthsigns are not in Skyrim, though.

I usually go lady or thief. The bonuses they give are invaluable, and all the power ones quickly become useless in later levels. Stat bonuses, on the other hand...

As everyone else, I go with the thief.

I see that the shadow got 4 votes, what's wrong with people it's completely useless.

Definitely The Thief. The luck boost is nice, and the other boosts go great with my stealth characters.
