The surprising number of Boromir fans should watch HBO's a Game of Thrones, his portrayal of Ned Stark is pretty similar (and awesome).

Merry and Pippin equally
They had pretty minor roles up until the last film.
I love the scene with treebeard and forest ripping down Isengard, and the fact merry essentially killed a Nazgoul, not to mention when they run out with Aragorn to face the Orcs in front of Mordor. All brilliant.

[Edit]
Weird how mere minutes after finishing watching all the LOTR extended editions, this should be the first topic I see.

Nothing beats a good Merry and Pippin action in my book. When all the darkness and melancholy that goes on, Merry and Pippin always lighten the mood in whatever scene they are in. Without them the books and the movie would be very different indeed.

I think my favorite moment is when Gimli, overcome by the beauty and kindness of Galadriel, admits that he desires a strand of her hair, but that he would never ask for such a thing. Lothlorien is a big turning point for the character. He is just a bit silly in the films.

Gimli is just the best. They are all pretty good, but come on! It's Gimli for christs sake!

Boromir. I just found him the most intriguing and flawed. Well, that and I'd do him, if I could be perfectly honest here. Blame that last part on Sean Bean. My heart is warmed by all the Boromir responses. I've always felt he was underrated.

Also, I can't watch Fellowship's end because I bawl like a baby the second the first arrow hits Boromir. Always turn the movie off there and live in the denial that he actually somehow lived...

... I can pretend.

Gandalf because Ian McKellan.

Gimli/Legolas because epic comic relief bromance that lasts the entire trilogy.

And Boromir for the most character development in the course of one movie out of three.

..The hobbits didn't really do too much for me. I somewhat fast-forward most of Frodo/Sam's scene's save for the Mordor stuff in Return of the King, honestly.

There's only one there I would theoretically trust my life with, and that's Sam. Whether in the books or in the movies, he's just a heartfelt and loyal companion that'll do whatever it takes to try and make things right not just for himself, but for everyone.

Very difficult choice, just finished my yearly read through of LoTR.

My first thought was Sam. So yes Sam. Samwise the Brave.
Then I thought of Gimli...I love Gimli...
Then I thought of all of them...I love all of them

With the exception on Grima, Saruman, and Sauron.

Also I love Frodo of the books, more then Frodo of the movies, for the most part.

And to people who say Boromir was most flawed, he died before really working them out. However Gimli you see grow and let go of past prejudices.

Cant decide between Gandalf or Boromir, because Boromir dies an absolute hero, and Gandalf is a FUCKING WIZARD!

EDIT: Also because Sean bean and Ian McKellen are both equally awesome.
Haha my reasons were similar mate, but in the end Gandalf got my vote.

I would have to go with Gandalf, the master of magic in the Fellowship. And he's just an all around bad ass, he gets killed, and that usually stops most people, but not Gandalf. He comes back, even more badass than ever and has a bitchin' new wardrobe.

I'd have a real hard time picking here...

Probably Merry and Pippin really, I like the whole "not meant to be there" mentality that they played in the first film. But then they find their own roles, most particularly, how they caused the destruction of Isenguard.

The scene where everyone else shows up to take on Saruman and they find Merry and Pippin sitting in the ruins of Isenguard talking about salted pork is probably one of my favourites.

Well for me, it was a toss-up between Gandalf and Gimli, with Legolas and Boromir coming close behind them. They were the best characters I thought and with the exception of Orlando Bloom, the actors playing them are all really good.

Gandalf

He's grumpy old bastard, especially in the books, but he's earned that right for being such a fucking badass. And old grumpy badasses are my favourite kind.

I voted for Sam. Really, the whole story is based upon Frodo and Sam. With the others being merely side plots. Though the films make it seem otherwise.

I love the bonding that happens between them, how despite the many dangers they face, they have each other. That brotherly aspect, the love and respect that is shown between them is amazing to me and the fact that Sam never once gave up hope on Frodo, was amazing. The scene that really got me in both the book and film was "I can't carry it, but I can carry YOU!" I swelled up at that.

Really, the Hobbits are my favourite characters within the film. Devilishly smart, cunning and witty creatures, that have the courage of many men twice their size.
See, I had the opposite opinion. When reading the books, I felt like Aragorn's story was really the main story, and all the others were side-plots.
Frankly though, i didn't really like many of the characters in LoTR. Aragorn was the only one I really liked, and I thought the rest were ok, except Boromir and Frodo, who I absolutely hated.
