Starcraft is not on the list because it is not a series as has been mentioned before. I believe that this is likely the case with Dawn of War as well (despite expansion packs).

Not really huge into RTS. I enjoyed Overlord, does that count at all?
I guess my favorite series would by process of elimination be Age of Empires, but I haven't played enough RTS to really have a great knowledge of them. Turn-based strategy series though, Heroes of Might and Magic by a lot.

Yeah, but StarCraft had Broodwar, which was an entire campaign in itself, and StarCraft2 on the way.

I'm pretty sure the OP just forgot.
I'm pretty sure that the OP didn't count expansions, and I'm pretty sure that it means favorite series implying that you've played multiple games in the series and have enjoyed them. Having only played one Starcraft game, it being the only one in current existence, I believe it can't, as of yet, be considered a series.

I think I'd have to say Dawn of War. It's a decent representation of the tabletop game rather than the literature, which is why i don't mind the squad cap. I'd be weary of one of these threads in a month, when Halo Wars will be flooding the comments afterwards ("Why no Halo Wars"). Granted the demo was OK, and the game may actually be good, but these threads aren't going to be pretty.

Homeworld, unequivocally. Granted, the second game wasn't quite up to snuff, but the first game is still the best RTS out there. Utterly perfect blend of gameplay, art, story, music, multiplayer, and every other aspect that makes an RTS an RTS.

I'd have to say the MechCommander and Company of Heroes series are pretty damn high up on the quality meter as well. Sins of a Solar Empire is also absolutely fantastic, but it's one game, so it can't quite be called a "series". However, a sequel could change that. ;)

I'm going to have to go with any of the Fire Emblem games.

I'm fairly certain those are RTS games

Tough choice between homeworld and Total War...but I'd say Total War.
The strategy is unmatched.
